Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre
Overview
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre offers a number of different programs and
services to support youth with significant psychiatric and behavioural difficulties, aged
12-17. All programs and services are comprehensive in their approach and include
participation of the family or alternate caregivers as well as the professionals in their
home community. In some programs there are both residential and non-residential
options. The programs offered include:

The Response Program –this program typically works with youth who have
behavioural difficulties as a primary issue. A Care Plan is developed as part of
this program, and respite services may be available. All youth who receive a
Care Plan, also have access to a Care Plan Consultant to help understand the
Care Plan when they leave. Most youth that are admitted to Dala or Crossroads
(residential programs), and who don’t have a Care Plan, will have one developed
while they are in residence.

The Dala Program is a six-bed residential treatment program providing
assessment and intervention for youth with internalizing symptoms in relation to
disorders of thought, mood or anxiety.

Crossroads Program - The Crossroads Care Program is an eight-bed program
designed to assist youth, caregivers, and communities when there are
substantial problems providing care in the community. These situations typically
involve severe conduct disorder and/or psychiatric disorders that require care in
a secure setting (including youth who have been found unfit to stand trial or not
criminally responsible by reason of a mental disorder).

The Bifröst Program is designed to provide adolescents and their families with an
intensive, home-based, short-term intervention. The program runs entirely in the
youth’s home community (with the exception of the Maples Connect Parenting
Group in Burnaby). The program is only available in the Lower Mainland.

Youth in residence at the Maples can access program support services,
including recreational activities and secondary school resource programs
(through the Burnaby School District’s on site school).

Connect Parent Group - Connect is a 10-week program where parents
and caregivers meet together in small groups with two trained leaders for
one and a half hour each week. Connect focuses on helping parents to
understand and respond to their child’s problem behaviour in ways that
strengthen their relationship and promote healthy development. Connect
Parent Groups are available in many BC communities. Contact your local
Child and Youth Mental Health office to find out if there is one near you.
