The intention of this seminar is to offer more understanding of quantum theory, often referred to
in energy therapies, and for this understanding to give wings to our practice.
“In order to add focus to a discourse of health in psychotherapy, I have recently introduced the term
sanatology, a clinical theory of health and healing. Quantum information theory affords immense
scope for any endeavour geared towards health.
It is also able to provide explanation and justification to energy-based methods. An emerging world-view
can be argued, in which traditionally segregated value spheres of being, mind, matter, meaning and spirit
can no longer be successfully separated. They become entangled, yet retain self-identity. In ordinary
language, entanglement may be expressed as faster- than- the- speed- of–light connectivity, which is
independent of time and space. Whilst entanglement is something more nuanced than holism, energy
can simply be understood as this type of connectivity. When working with energy methods, some
knowledge of quantum theory is thus helpful.”

In the morning Birgit Heuer will speak to her paper Discourse of illness or discourse of health:
towards a paradigm shift in post-Jungian clinical theory (copies available for participants from
james.barrett1@btinternet.com ) The paper argues for a phenomenal potential improvement in
healing through psychotherapy and in very particular ways the practice of energy therapy in
psychotherapy matches what Birgit has envisioned. This vision emerges from a grounded
critique of the practice of Jungian and psychoanalytic therapies, and through her understandings
of quantum physics and the mystical energy of grace.
In the afternoon we may work in pairs, or as a group, to further articulate the potential of energy
psychology in psychotherapy in the light of the morning’s discussions.
Biography of Birgit Heuer :Jungian Analyst of the British Psychotherapy Foundation, previously trained
in body-oriented psychotherapy. In private practice for the past thirty-four years. Served on BAP training
committee and worked as clinical supervisor at Kingston University. Teaches on several Jungian-analytic
trainings, at Birkbeck College, University of London, and at the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies,
University of Essex. Has published and lectured on the body in analysis, on the theme of forgiveness, on
clinical paradigm and is about to submit a doctoral thesis on sanatology, a clinical theory of health and
healing.
