Haddington Infant School Travel Team Minutes of meeting held on Wednesday 27th October 2010 Present: Elisa Smith Polly Cooke Jean Squires Roz Maguire Erica Muirhead Apologies: Marshall Greenshields Shirley Swinton 1. Travel Plan The Travel Team worked through the action plan set out in the current Travel Plan document (dated January 2007). An updated action plan will be drawn up as a result of these discussions, and will include the items detailed in these minutes. 2. New joint campus Representatives from the Travel Team would like to meet with Mr Andy Shaw, Strategic Planning Officer from East Lothian Council’s Education Department, to discuss their part in planning the infrastructure around the new joint campus of Haddington Infant School and St Mary’s Primary. Action ES 3. School Travel Survey A new survey to ask parents about their travel to and from school will be drawn up and distributed to pupils. Travel Team to liaise with Mrs Swinton to determine how best to distribute it (e.g at Parent Consultation, in children’s school bags, or during Road Safety Week). Action JS 4. Safer Routes Map Travel Team to look at the existing ‘Safer Routes’ map and see if/how it can be updated to be more user friendly. Action PC 5. Road Safety Week Travel Team to ask Mrs Swinton if Haddington Infants will be promoting National Road Safety Week – November 22nd to 28th. Members are happy to apply for the resources packs on behalf of the school if necessary. Action ES 6. ‘Living Streets’ Travel Team would like the charity Living Streets to come in and look at Haddington, and the area around the schools, to see if they can give any advice on improvements which can be made. Elisa Smith has been in contact with them and is awaiting a response. Action ES 7. More pedestrian crossings The Travel Team would like to present local Councillors with a map/document highlighting the areas they feel additional pedestrian crossings would be beneficial, and will then lobby to have these installed. They would not only help to create more safe routes to schools but would help make Haddington more pedestrian friendly. Action TT Travel Team Cluster group meetings The Travel Team feel there should be more frequent meetings with travel teams from the other local schools, especially in light of the new joint campus. We would like to focus some of our efforts on Haddington as a whole, rather than just the area around the Infant school, to try and create a more pedestrian friendly town which will also be safer for children travelling to and from school. The next cluster group meeting is scheduled for January but we would like to find out who is representing the other schools so we can start a cluster email list to share information, and to set up additional meetings.
