PALM BEACH CURRUMBIN RUGBY UNION CLUB GOLDEN OLDIES – TOOTHLESS GATORS PRESIDENT’S REPORT Noel Collier 2014 2014 was a quiet year in terms of playing activity, with a lot of games missed through postponements or lack of players. Our Games Co-ordinator Todd Mikkelson (Tadd) has put his heart and soul into trying to achieve a kick off and was often disappointed. Our rugby playing numbers have been diminished by retirements, injuries and a lot of our blokes working on fly in fly out contracts. Our Toothless Gators rugby playing squad is now in desperate need of some under 50 year olds and the Toothless Gators need to begin a rebuilding phase, perhaps including a recruitment program through Junior parents and retiring Grade players. Mike Elliston (our former El Pres) retired during the year after years of sterling work leading and organising the rugby playing team and other events. Mike put a huge effort into this thankless task and is now expending the same effort in tutoring our young ladies rugby team who have achieved immense success in their first playing year. The highlight of the year, for some of the team, was travelling to the World Golden Oldies Tournament in Argentina. A great tour was had by all, with well know Alleygator personality Paul Clarke (Cookie) on his maiden Tour ably assisted by seasoned Tourists and Club Management Committee men Russell McKay (Crabby) and Greg Williams (Numbers), among a dozen others. Cookie was in fact Player of the Match in the last Tour game, showing all the benefit of his earlier high altitude training (4 days trekking in Peru). By the time of the Club Annual General Meeting the end of season ‘Magical Mystery Bus Tour’ will have been and gone and will no doubt still be a mystery the next day, to some members. Next year will be the 25th Anniversary of the ‘Toothless Gators’ and Bob Prescott (Dr Bob) founding President and Lifetime Patron is heading the organisation for next year’s celebrations. Dr Bob is compiling a list of blokes suspected of having played for the Toothless Gators since inception. Finally a big shout out to all the 2014 Management Committee members, helpers and supporters! Very well done and we all look forward to an even bigger and better 2015! Noel Collier President November 14
