New Business Name Cancer Awareness CommitteeCancer Awareness Carnival Description Kyle: Wanted to do something that recognized all types of cancer and want to benefit locally. Fundraisers to buy items that people fighting cancer need, ex. Shampoo, comfort things. Want to have series of events for all types of cancer, but changed to one bigger event, carnival. Other organizations involved main idea: all types of campus awareness and group awareness and people here. Questions Connor: Advertising plan? Kyle: Word of mouth, hot chocolate sale, pancake sale, working with RA’s to do grilled cheese. Other events, a members parents run printing so they donate posters Lindsy: Where do you hang posters? Kyle: Posters in designated spots on campus and shops around town Lindsy: Hospital? Kyle: Not sure, but Stephanie has worked with hospital, good idea. Trying to work on table tents Connor: What groups do you have lined up for event? Kyle: Don’t know yet but 8-10 groups and other halls said they wanted to have tables with table poster that talks about cancer or treatment. Want a question and it can be like a scavenger hunt answering questions. Half board about cancer education, half board for themselves Nathan: Superior edge for hours maybe? Think there is a good list of volunteers Kyle: We fill TV room every week, have Facebook group for members and updates Connor: Talked to Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center? Kyle: One of the people that works there was going to be advisor so they are aware Mary Brundage: Do people win prizes? What about food? Kyle: Not going to have popcorn machine because Vandement wouldn’t allow cotton candy or popcorn. Have to make snacks before hand Lindsy: Fundraising at event, donation based? Kyle: Yes, donation based jars. But we know proceeds go back to SFC Nathan: Only problem it might be deceiving. People might think it’s going towards cancer, but it’s going back to us. Kyle: Make sure it is known money is not going to cancer Lindsy: Could they say if you want to donate go somewhere else Nathan: No problems, little grey, but no issues Michael: What if Superior Edge or other groups collect money and can put it toward cancer? Nathan: No matter who is helping it is still part of the event within itself, best option maybe brochure that says how to donate Connor: Any idea how many tables or groups Kyle: Have it set up so up to 50 groups can be there, with event they gave us discount Jacob: Numbers not adding up, bolds add up to about $90 more Changing event supplies to $1494.74 New budget: $2,255.34 Discussion Connor: Like it Most people like Connor: Table tent good Nathan: Since new group it seemed like big event, but they have put in a lot of research and work into this. Think it will be successful. If students hear about it. Just get the word out good working with halls. Any issues?
