Historian’s opinions
The jail theme is unique to Carmarthen but other towns and cities in Wales have
their own histories for example the Second World War bombing of Swansea, the in
and out migration of people in Cardiff, the 1969 investiture in Caernarfon, and the
Chartists in Newtown and Newport.

The People’s Collection Wales are in the process of compiling sources and are
creating packs relevant to different locations in Wales. They are also preparing
teacher notes and classroom activities to complement these resources. Keep an
eye on the People’s Collection Wales website so that you are aware of the
availability of these materials.
Newspapers
The National Library of Wales have recently launched a new database of Welsh
newspapers published between 1844 and 1910. Use this excellent new resource to
source advertisements and any other information from these publications.
