Education Committee Student Representative Position Statement – Christine Kiefer
I am interested and excited to be able to take part in such an important committee for not only the
current CRNAs nationally but also impact the profession’s future. I look forward to being able to function as
a source of information for other students like myself as well as communicate the objectives of the AANA. I
believe that leading by example is the best way to encourage and inspire others to be the best student and
professional they can be. Facilitating the empowerment of fellow students will increase involvement in our
professional organization and the educational standards for not only us as students, but also the SRNAs of
the future. I have been fortunate to be in positions that have allowed me the opportunity to bring groups of
people together and incorporate their individual views and suggestions to reach a common goal, one of
which was through my work as the Co-Chair of the Trauma Nurse Specialist Program. I was able to
facilitate the meeting and cohesiveness of the RNs from the Emergency Dept. with the RNs from the
Surgical Trauma ICU, developing one group with a common goal. Being able to share and serve as an
information source and forum for other students through the AANA NewsBulletin will further allow me to
develop my leadership qualities and mentorship qualities in the future.
Facilitating ease of learning and involvement for others, with the goal to provide the best care to
patients, has always been an important quality of mine throughout my career. I look forward to offering
fellow students a sounding-board with which to discuss concerns, ideas and information through the
Student News Column. Also, I am looking forward to learning how the AANA Education Committee
provides feedback to the COA on educational requirements for nurse anesthesia programs, including
revisions to the Standards that have been set. Involvement in our professional education and standards
that guide our practice is an exciting and important piece to the future of our profession! I would appreciate
our vote for me as your student representative for the Education Committee and allow me to inspire,
involve and educate others regarding our awesome profession and the educational standards we hold
ourselves to.
