The 128 different lithologies were classified into 18 broad rock types then 12 further sub-divided into 6 general rock categories (Igneous; Metamorphic; Basin 13 slope; Terrestrial; Platform margin and Platform interior). Rock descriptions were translated from Italian, simplified, 18 and the rocks were then classified into specific rock types and grouped into rock 19 category.
