The Ramblin’ Reck Club has been serving Georgia Tech since 1930 when it was founded to maintain school spirit and tradition. Today in 2012, we strive to keep the traditions of Georgia Tech alive for the future generations of students on our great campus. The greatest honor bestowed upon Reck Club is the privilege of caring for the one and only Ramblin’ Reck, a 1930 Ford Model A Sports Coupe. We also serve our campus in a larger role through working relationships with the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, Alumni Association, and student body at-large. Reck Club strives to educate, facilitate, and preserve the traditions that our illustrious Institute are built upon. The club seeks members who could actively participate and enhance our ability to carry out these goals on our campus. In order to more easily to do this we have a wide variety of committees and executive positions listed and detailed below. BASEBALL – Organizes club activities for baseball such as promotions, Reck Race, Big Buzz set-up, etc. Acts as liaison between Athletic Assoc. baseball representative and the club. BASKETBALL - Organizes club activities for basketball through promotions, Big Buzz set-up, etc. Acts as liaison between Athletic Assoc. basketball representative and the club. FOOTBALL - Organizes club activities for football such as shaker distribution, balloon handouts, Yellow Jacket Alley, etc. Acts as liaison between Athletic Association football representative and the club. FRESHMAN CAKE RACE - Organizes and runs the annual Freshman Cake Race for Homecoming. HOMECOMING – Responsible for organizing the club’s Homecoming activities. Keeps the student body informed of Homecoming events. Collaborates with Student Center and IFC/Panhellenic Homecoming Committees. Committee Descriptions: MEMBERSHIP – Coordinates RRC membership drive. Prepares “probates” for actual membership acceptance. MINI 500 - Organizes and runs the annual Mini 500 for Homecoming. NON-REVENUE SPORTS – Organizes club responsibilities for non- revenue sports such as women’s basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis. PUBLICITY – Responsible for RRC publicity. includes preparing the run-through banners for football games. RECK PARADE – Organizes and runs the annual Ramblin’ Reck Parade for Homecoming. RECK PARADE PROGRAMS – Produces the program distributed at the Reck Parade. RRC ALUMNI RELATIONS – Liaison between the club and its alumni. Includes organizing alumni events such as Pig Roast and Alumni Baseball Tailgate TECHNOLOGY – Organizes and maintains the club website T-BOOK- writes and publishes the T-Book every year. This committee is responsible for the layout and material of the book. T-NIGHT – Organizes and runs “Traditions Night” in the fall. TRADITIONS – Maintains the history of RRC and is responsible for website, traditions.gatech.edu Executive Positions: Reck Driver – The only member in the club who may drive the Reck. This member is in charge of maintaining the Reck and ensuring its safety. President – Responsible for meetings. The President meets regularly with campus administrators to discuss campus events and Reck Club’s role in them. Vice President – Responsible for all the committee chairs and their activities Secretary – Keeps minutes and informs club of upcoming events; in charge of all correspondence from Exec Treasurer – Must maintain a budget, collect dues, reimbursements, etc. Member at Large (MAL) – There are two MALs in Ramblin’ Reck Club. For example, thirteen years ago a probate in Reck Club suggested a spirit group for football called the “Swarm,” and today it is composed of nearly 1000 members cheering loudly at football and basketball games. Conversely, this season saw a lack of student attendance at football. Please describe an idea you have for a new Tech Tradition or symbol that promotes school spirit OR discuss a possible solution to our poor student attendance at sporting events.
