Upper Elementary – 3 Learning Activities: (Day 6) Origami Frog (10-15 Minutes) What You Need: Tablet or Computer, Blank Index Card or Paper for Each Child, Pen Say: What is your favorite animal? (Pause for Response) Of all the animals God has made, I think frogs are pretty spectacular. Today, we are going to make origami frogs. Do: Allow children to walk through the process of making an origami frog using the link below. Example: Look here - http://pinterest.com/pin/314266880218360094/ Say: Now that you have finished your frogs, I want you to write Genesis 1: 24-26 on your frog, so you remember that God made the animals on Day 6. (Pause for Children to Write) Even though frogs are great animals, what is something else that is pretty special, which God made on Day 6? (Pause for Response) We were the very last piece of Creation. Why do you think God made us last? (Pause for Response) Why do you think God made us at all? What job did God give us? (Pause for Response) God gave us responsibility for taking care of creation. What does that tell you? (Pause for Response) It tells me that God cares a great deal about everything God created. Do: Help children move back to the group space to learn about the Mission Connection. Make it Digital (5-10 Minutes) What You Need: Tablet or Mobile Phone for Each Child, Twitter App Say: Give me an overview of what has happened in the creation story. (Pause for Response) Does anyone here use Twitter? Who can tell me what a hashtag is? (Pause for Response) Twitter is a great way to share a short message. You can only use 140 characters to tell a story. A hashtag is like a code that puts your message in a category. Every hashtag has this sign #. Today, you are going to write a tweet about each day of creation and create a hashtag for that day. Any questions? (Pause for Response) Do: Help children who have never used the Twitter app write a tweet and then allow children to write 6 tweets about each day of creation. Say: What was hard about this? (Pause for Response) There wasn’t much space to describe all of creation! What is amazing to me is that God simply spoke that animals, stars, plants, and everything else should exist, and they did. God didn’t need to describe things, God simply created the universe out of nothing! Do: Help children move back to the group space to learn about the Mission Connection. 1 Upper Elementary – 3 Learning Activities: (Day 6) Chirp Game (5-10 Minutes) What You Need: Tablet or Mobile Phone for Each Child, Chirp App, Animal Pictures, Prizes Say: What is the craziest animal name you know? (Pause for Response) Some animals have easy names and some animals have difficult names. Today, we are going to play a game with names. I am going to send you a Chirp with a picture of an animal, a bird, or a fish. The first person to raise his/her hand and tell me the right name will win a prize. Are you ready to play? (Pause for Response) Do: Help children who have never used this app with a practice round, then start the game. Say: What was the most interesting animal you saw in the game and why? (Pause for Response) Tell me why you think Day 6 of Creation is cool? (Pause for Response) Besides animals, what else did God make on Day 6? (Pause for Response) God made people! Humans were the last piece of God’s creation. God put everything we would need into place, before God made us! What is cool about how God made us? (Pause for Response) We were made in God’s image! Nothing else in creation, except us, was made in God’s image, and that is really cool! Do: Help children move back to the group space to learn about the Mission Connection. 2
