Electronics Engineer specializing in Computer Technologies NATURE OF WORK This employee supports and maintains both administrative and instructional computers, software, and networks. This work includes repair, support, maintenance, and installation of all technology-related equipment. Employee provides on-site assistance in classrooms, media centers, computer labs, and administrative offices at 24 campuses. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. This employee provides support from the system level for the maintenance and operation of computers. This employee provides technical support to users and other technology-support personnel. The employee determines the need for technology-related supplies and repair components and maintains a working inventory of necessary equipment. The employee works with vendors in the selection of technology-related items, which are best suited for the needs of the district. This employee provides building-level and district support and requires highly specialized knowledge of computer hardware, software, and computer networks. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in contacts with school system employees. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK Uses electronics information to solve a wide range of computer problems Diagnoses and resolves complex computer issues Provides technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered for computer or technology systems Calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electrical instruments or testing equipment for computer systems. Works with circuits, transformers, microprocessors, wiring, and electrical parts to perform repairs Ensures the maintenance of computers, software, local area networks, and other related equipment by monitoring performance Installs upgrades to hardware and software Reviews repair requests, determines extent of needed service, determines feasibility of request and works closely with users to determine appropriate course of action. Reviews repair parts and hardware specifications and makes recommendations concerning acquisitions Ensures standard quality levels are met with respect to repair of electronic equipment Maintains service records relating to hardware and software issues Makes recommendations to building-level staff regarding upgrades and replacement of technology-related equipment Provides insight and recommendations in research, purchasing, implementation, and support of new technologies Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technology-related equipment. SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Master’s in Electronics Engineering plus one year of experience or Bachelor’s in Electronics Engineering plus five years of experience.
