Great War, 1914-1918

There is a café in Great Moor House and a larger one, the Fresha café, about five
minutes’ walk away. There is also a pub, the Barn Owl, on the other side of the
Honiton Road. However, it may be preferable to bring your own lunch.

If you have a particular question or research problem which you would like help with,
please bring it to the meeting or, if possible, notify us of it in advance . Members of
Devon Heritage Services staff and speakers will be available to advise you about
original, secondary and online sources which may help you to overcome your
research difficulties.

Speakers:
Rob Palmer is a military historian who lives in Barnstaple. Early retirement allowed
Rob to concentrate on his passion of researching and writing about military history,
and he runs the British Military History website (www.britishmilitaryhistory.co.uk) as
well as the associated Facebook and Twitter accounts. His main area of interest is
the British Army and British Indian Army during the Second World War and the war
in South East Asia in particular, but also covers the First World War and post Second
World War conflicts. He is reading for a Master’s degree at the University of
Birmingham in British Military History of the Second World War.
Ann Bond is an active researcher and local historian. She is the Chair of the
Kenton Past and Present Society and a member of the Council of the Devon History
Society.
Jan Wood has worked for the archive service in Devon since 2000. She is an
experienced genealogical researcher.

Please also let Brian know if you have a specific problem or enquiry which you would
like to submit for the Problem Solving Session.
