Second Sunday of Advent
December 7
Priest: Longing for the day when the Lord will come again, we bring our prayers
before the Holy One.
Deacon/Reader:
For the people of God, that following the example of Pope Francis we may enjoy
the beauty of this season with simplicity of heart and lifestyle.
We pray to the Lord.
For our elected officials, may they strive to end poverty and bring dignity to every
citizen they are called to protect and serve. We pray to the Lord.
For those seeking a relationship with Christ, may they find welcome and truth
among us. We pray to the Lord.
For those alone or estranged from family, may they be welcomed at this table
and at our table at home. We pray to the Lord.
For the grace this week to enter into the season of Advent with true repentance
for our sins. We pray to the Lord.

Priest: Let us ask for Mary’s intercession as we turn to her Son in prayer.

That the universal Church continue to grow under the patronage of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. We pray to the Lord.
That civic leaders respond to the needs of their people with enthusiasm, making
decisions based on wisdom, and acting with courage. We pray to the Lord.
That Mary’s maternal mediation will raise us to the moral greatness befitting true
children of God. We pray to the Lord.
That those in our faith community be renewed in their devotion to Mary, let us
pray. We pray to the Lord.
That we may recognize Christ in all people we meet. We pray to the Lord.

Priest: With joyful hearts and in thanksgiving for the gift of the Holy Spirit to help
us to build up the kingdom of God on earth, let us offer our petitions to the
Father:

For the people of God, may we be forever thankful for the sacraments God has
given us through the Church, enabling the power of the Holy Spirit to work in our
lives through them. We pray to the Lord.
That our Holy Father, all clergy and sisters be joyful messengers of the Lord’s
coming. We pray to the Lord.
For all those who suffer, that this Advent season may help them reflect on what
God wants to make straight in their lives so as to bring about healing and
blessing. We pray to the Lord.
For all those who work to heal the brokenhearted, who minister to prisoners and
who serve the poor, may their work be blessed by our prayers.

For those who fear, suffer, and mourn, that they may discover the tenderness of

follow in God’s ways of faithfulness. We pray to the Lord.
For those who rule and hold power over others, may they govern with equality,
integrity, justice and peace. We pray to the Lord.
For those who suffer in any way during this Advent season, may they know
Jesus in the comfort of those who care for them. We pray to the Lord.
For the grace of this Advent season to foster a greater respect for the precious
gift of human life. We pray to the Lord.
That those sick in body, mind or spirit may be surrounded by compassionate

Priest: The shepherds rejoiced to hear the choir of angels sing, Glory to God in
the highest. United in their joy, we glorify the Father by offering him our
Christmas intercessions:

For the Church, the people of God, that the light of Christ will illuminate our life
and worship together. We pray to the Lord.
For the Holy Father, bishops and priests, that their life and teaching will proclaim
the saving event of the Incarnation. We pray to the Lord.

For the renewal of family life: that the love of Mary and Joseph will rekindle love
