Truman Scholarship • www.truman.gov Funding, community, and intellectual/professional/personal development for change agents Campus Nomination Application Deadline • Thursday, December 5th, 2013 History& Mission The Truman Scholarship Foundation’s mission is to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and to provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service. Benefits& Responsibilities Scholarships go to college students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service. Up to $30,000 in support is awarded for graduate or professional school. Scholarship recipients participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government. Process The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation works in partnership with its established academic partners and only accepts applications submitted through the nominating office or program. STUDENTS MAY NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE PROGRAM. Eligibility Full-time junior-level student Be in the upper quarter of his or her class U.S. citizenship or permanent residence Have an extensive record of public and community service Have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills Students MUST be nominated by the Fellowship Liaison/University Honors adviser to represent Portland State University within this national competition Each application must include the following components: A completed application available here (fully-proofread, all PSU nominees MUST respond to Item 15) an appropriately formatted Policy Proposal Institutional nomination - This component will be written and submitted by the Fellowships Liaison in cooperation with the Director of the Honors Program Current PSU Transcript– Request transcript at Neuberger Hall Window.
