Meeting: SCHOOL MUSIC TRIP TO FRANCE 2016
2pm Sunday, 15th February 2015
St John’s College staff room
use the Hillcrest Road car park
entrance closest to the fenced hockey/tennis courts
THE TRIP: Sacred Heart Girls’ College and St John’s College combined schools music trip to France,
Sunday 18th September to Sunday 2nd October (15 days travelling) 2016. This is the last week of term
three and the first week of school holidays. The intention of the trip is to pursue a pilgrimage to
places of historical and spiritual significance regarding our schools’ special Catholic character using
music as our vehicle. The trip will be made up of three main phases: 1) performing concerts to
Catholic organisations such as schools and retirement homes, perhaps public concerts, 2) a
pilgrimage to Notre Dame de l’Hermitage (origins of the Marist Order) and to seek the origins of the
Mission Sisters, 3) last two days doing touristy things and visits such as Paris shops. Family members
are encouraged to join the trip as accompanying and supervising adults and to make it a truly rich
and rewarding family experience beyond all others. You will be able to reminisce with your family for
ever.
To offer students rich learning experiences, St John’s College and Sacred Heart Girls’ College
combine where practicable and pursue an active programme that involves lots of school music
groups, plenty of performance activities, and various trips locally, regionally, nationally and
ultimately internationally. To this end, the music departments work towards one long-haul trip to
the other side of the world and a more regional trip to a South Pacific nation, both trips within a five
year school cycle. This means that while a student is at high school there are at least two overseas
music trips scheduled. Previously, the overseas trips have been 2010 to Sydney & Canberra, 2012 to
New York, 2014 to Samoa and our next trip (2016) is long-haul, to France.
Students that are in Year 8 during 2015 are invited with their families to attend the above meeting,
there being a likelihood they will be enrolled at either of the colleges in 2016 and therefore eligible
to join the trip. The trip is expensive and by inviting students now rather than upon arrival into Year
9 helps make it more inclusive by offering maximum time to organise personal finances. Cost and
fundraising will be discussed at the meeting.
