SMA Athletic Mission:
The purpose of the Athletic Program is to provide the opportunity for every child who attends Saint Mary Academy (SMA) Catholic School or
religious programs at either Immaculate Conception or Saint Bernadette to participate in team and individual sports in a recreational environment
that fosters healthy competition, good sportsmanship, and Christian attitudes. Winning is inherent in athletic competition, and the development of
athletic skills, knowledge of sports and fielding competitive teams are important objectives. However, the most important objectives at SMA are to
provide a quality experience, helping students develop positive self-image, teaching a sense of teamwork, and helping each and every participant
reach their potential.
Coaching at SMA:
Anyone interested in Coaching at SMA should please contact the appropriate sport coordinator. Per SMA athletic bylaws all coaching positions are
decided on a year to year basis, based on application. Per archdiocesan policy, all coaches must pass a background check, attend Safe Environment
Training and watch the “Coaching for Life” video at www.loucsaa.org.

SMA Athletic Board
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Saint Mary Athletics’ Board is to organize, fund, supervise, and promote athletic teams and to provide opportunities for the
grade school children attending Saint Mary Academy, as well as the children who attend the parishes of Saint Bernadette and Immaculate
Conception to participate in the Archdiocese’s Catholic School Athletic Association leagues. The Board shall recruit individuals who can serve as role
models for children. These adults should provide a proper example for children to help them become mature and responsible adult Christians.
These individuals should also be able to teach the necessary athletic skills to help children develop their God-given talent to the best of their ability
and who will strive to develop competitive athletic teams. At all times, the Board will follow Saint Mary Academy’s academic guidelines and
policies, will promote and emphasize good sportsmanship and to see to the spiritual and physical welfare of all who participate in organized
athletic and recreational activities so that the children of Saint Mary will be provided the opportunity for a quality athletic experience. All actions
and activities by individuals, players, coaches and spectators associated with Saint Mary Athletics should at all times be in keeping with the
teaching of Christ and His Church, and the example of Mary, Our Blessed Mother.
