_____ The SMA Proceedings will follow the Journal of Marketing’s style manual with respect to citations, references,
figures, and tables. Please pay attention to the abbreviated Reference Style Guide at the bottom of this Checklist as
well as to the Style Guidelines that are posted on the SMA website.
_____ Full Paper or Full Case authors are not permitted to indicate that, “references are available upon request.”
Each Full Paper or Full Case must have a reference section that contains a complete listing of all works cited.
Summary Brief papers or cases must include any references cited within the Summary Brief. The inclusion of
references increases the usefulness of the research as a reference for other authors, enhances the value of your
work, and strengthens the value of the SMA Proceedings to the marketing discipline.
_____ All manuscripts, prepared in accordance to SMA Style Guidelines, are to be submitted electronically
in camera-ready condition.
_____ For authors who have submitted completed manuscripts, you have already indicated to your Track Chair
whether you wish your work to be published as a Full Paper/Full Case or as a 2-page Summary Brief. Since the
SMA has obtained quotations for the Proceedings based on a specific number of pages, it is essential that you
abide by your initial publishing decision.

limit for a Full Paper or a Full Case only. Check made payable to “Society for Marketing Advances.”

[Note: The use of MS WORD is required.] Please name your MS Word file with SMA and then the last name(s)
of the author(s) in the order in which they appear in the paper followed by the type of submission (see item
10 above) as in, for example: “SMA Doe, Jones and Smith - Full Paper” or “Jones - Distinguished
Teacher Comment.” It is very important that you please be sure to use this naming convention. Thank you!!!

SMA Copyright Release Form. Note: If you have co-authors, each author must sign the copyright release
form and print her/his name under the signature. SMA cannot and will not publish your work without ALL

Email Submission required for your manuscript(s): By July 18, 2012, send an email with your paper as an
attached file (MS WORD is required). In the Subject Line of the email, please put SMA and then the last name(s) of the
author(s) in the order in which they appear in the paper followed by the type of submission (see items 10 and 4 above) as in,
for example: “SMA Doe, Jones and Smith - Full Paper” or “Jones - Distinguished Teacher Comment.” Please also use this
naming convention for naming your MS WORD file. The email address to which to email your manuscript is:

Surface Mail submission required for SMA Copyright Release form and any Page Fees:
By July 18, 2012, please submit the following items by surface mail to the address below:
 For a Full Paper or a Full Case submission, the SMA Copyright Release Form with signatures of all authors.
 For a Full Paper or a Full Case, a check for US $50 per page for each page (or partial page) over the designated 4page limit for Full Papers or Full Cases only, payable to “Society for Marketing Advances.”
 If your paper has complicated figures or exhibits that may be difficult with which for the Editors to work, please
surface mail a 3½” diskette, with a label on the diskette with the last name(s) of author(s) and the title of paper.
(PLEASE NOTE: Do not send a diskette unless you believe that your paper has complicated figures or exhibits
with which the Editors may have trouble.)
