This article is organized in a manner that emphasizes the importance of each individual category of the development of literature during the time period of Ancient Greece. The article thoroughly describes the different types of literature, such as tragedy and comedy, that was developed during this time period, as well as the varying qualities that the Ancient Greek’s had in the development of their creative pieces of writing. Within each category there are examples of various authors and pieces of literature that pertain to the subject to give the reader a better idea about the type of style the Ancient Greeks used in their writing. The article further explains how many pieces of literature are based off of the historical events of Ancient Greece with sub branches recounting the life and works of a heroic or mythological people. Because literature was a means of expressing the changes occurring during this time period Greek history played an extremely important role in the development of literature. This article could, therefore, be used to show the tenets of how the Ancient Greeks found great importance of their history and the idea of mythology, as well as the types of literature, such as comedy and tragedy. The most important ideas that the source establishes are that 800 B.C. to 500 B.C. was a period of great development politically, intellectually and artistically, and that the Greeks Empire was large and diverse, making a common cultural thread vital to the sustainment of it. The Greeks set the stage for every civilization that followed them. The Greeks also placed the scenes of natural beauty on a high pedestal, using nature to aid in the development of the story portrayed in the literature. The nature reflected the mood and tone the author used, as well as reflect the thoughts and emotions of the characters within the literature, whether it was through a play, poem, or novel. The article provides excerpts and poems as examples of the types of literature that were popular during this time period, giving further knowledge on the writing style of the authors. The key ideas that will be used, and a part of the tenets, would be the historical background, and the arts which gives information on the emphasis on natural beauty and the emphasis the Greeks placed on tragedy.
