CARE Services Warren Consolidated Schools partners with CARE of Southeaster Michigan in order to offer a free counseling assessment and referral service to all WCS students. This is a valuable service for two reasons. First, the assessment is comprehensive and helps to establish both a need for counseling services and a possible targeted area (i.e. anger management or grief and loss). Second, the CARE associates are able to refer students and families that accept the type of insurance that the student has (including Medicaid) or to agencies that work on a sliding fee scale if no insurance is available. CARE also offers affordable services in the way of Parenting Classes (grouped by the age of the child/children), Anger management Classes for students, and Substance Abuse Prevention Programs. For more information about CARE’s services visit www.careofsem.com or call 586-541-2273. PROM This years ALNET Prom will be on April 25th, 2014 at Mac & Rays Banquet Center. It’s been an exciting few months as we began our 20th year of mentoring in the Warren Consolidated School District! In October, we kicked off our Strategic Five-Year Planning and Career Readiness programming at Community High in which, upon completion of the program, students will be able to apply for exclusive scholarships offered by Winning Futures (scholarship essays are due April 15th). Each week the 90 students in Winning Futures have the opportunity to learn critical life skills first-hand from our 26 volunteer mentors. The three-to-one mentoring teams have been developing meaningful relationships over the past few months while exploring career paths and In addition to mentoring and life skills education, we will also be offering CHS students the opportunity to participate in our Keys to College Continuing Education Seminars in April. This new program will help college-bound high school juniors and seniors prepare for college. The seminar topics include: college requirements and admissions, college selection, and other relevant topics. As we reflect on what we’ve accomplished in 20 years, we’re proud to say that Community High School was part of our humble beginnings and that we look forward to working with your amazing students for the next 20 years!
