Alumni Association April 12, 2013 The QF is now in the midst of selecting the eighth group of Queer Scholars. At the same time we are creating an alumni association for former Queer Scholars. If you would like to be involved, all you need do is send your contact information. There are no dues. April 13, 2013 I am happy to help the Alumni Association in any way I can. This includes -sharing your name with other members IF (and only if) you authorize me to do so; -creating a Facebook page or a group blog should you as a group desire such; or -leaving the organization of alumni activities, online spaces, etc., entirely up to you. Just let me know. I look forward to any comments, criticisms, or suggestions you may have. June 8, 2013 I'm feeling remiss in having suggested a Queer Scholars Alumni Association and then not following up sooner to see how The QF can be supportive. One way may be to keep you informed of the new Queer Scholars as they have now been selected. They will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to apply toward their 2013-14 studies at the U.S. college or university of their choice. Kathleen Kinlin ("Unrequited"), Columbia College Chicago Ciara Suggs ("April"), Front Range Community College, Westminster, CO Zachery Taylor ("Mirror, Mirror on the Wall"), University of Chicago You can read their essays at http://queerfoundation.org. You can also see the announcement of Pink Ink 2014, The Ninth Annual Essay Contest at http://queerfoundation.org/html/scholarship_application.html. I hope every high school student in the Class of '14 has a chance to see this announcement. And then there are the opportunities, from time to time, for alumni (actually any essay contestants from past years) to write for the QF Scholar, the quarterly newsletter of the Foundation. The deadline for that is just around the corner: June 15 (see attachment). Shortly I will inform the retiring (2012-13) group of Queer Scholars about the Alumni Association and asking them about their interest in participating. Please let me know any other ways we at The QF can support the Alumni Association. Your advice and support are always appreciated! June 9, 2013 As you finish your year as a Queer Scholar, I wanted to be sure that you know about The QF's Alumni Association. It is a more or less informal group of former scholarship recipients who would like to keep in touch. I have volunteered to help the Association in any way I can. This includes sharing your name and email address with other members IF (and only if) you authorize me to do so. The QF is also able to offer you a group blog through which you can create your own individual blog should you wish. Just let me know if you are interested. I look forward to any comments, criticisms, or suggestions you may have as regards your experience as a Queer Scholar or The QF's Alumni Association. June 15, 2013 Allow me to introduce Skailer Qvistgaard (skailerQ@gmail.com), who has just finished his year as a Queer Foundation scholarship recipient. Please welcome him.
