Naples
•Naples has been impacted by Hurricanes in the past. We lie on the east coast of Florida and sustain maximum damage each time a named storm hits
our shores. We would benefit most from the FEMA funding. This funding would be used to build baracades to protect our citizens from water spouts
and surges that occur during storms. Also, we will reinforce our older building with hurricane resistant systems.
Tampa
•Tampa is on the west coast of Florida. We are prone to damage caused by storms that go through the Gulf of Mexico. We have had several hurricanes
impact our landscape. One of which was hurricane Charley which devasted the Tampa Bay area. We would use the FEMA funding to strengthen our
shoreline. Also, we would like to create an incentive for our citizens to have shutters and other hurricane systems in place to protect thier homes.
Pensacola
•Our location on the panhandle of Florida has made us vulnerable to Hurricanes. In the past 40 years we have been hit by 9 named stroms. Hurricane
Ivan was especially devestating as it destroyed most of the Escambia Bay Bridge. We would like to be considered for the FEMA funding. We need the
money to reinforce our bridges and older buildings. Also we would like to create barricades that will protect citizens from storm surges and water spouts
that may occur.
Tallahassee
•Tallahassee houses the state capital and should have top priority when choosing which city should recieve the FEMA funding. We are on the Florida
Panhandle and have seen our share of storms. We would use the funding to stregthen the buildings around the capital.
Kissimmee
•Kissimmee produces much of Florida's tourisim revenue. Our great city is home to the Osceola County Stadium, Universal Orlando Resort, Sea World,
and the Walt Disney World Resort. We would use the FEMA funding to protect our tourist areas from hurricane impact.
