If you have failed a course or courses and are ineligible for the award of your degree, you may apply to return in 2014/15 to re-attend failed course(s). You may not re-attend any course you have passed. Applications to re-attend a course are considered individually on their merits and are not approved automatically. If you wish to resit a failed examination in May 2015 without re-attending the relevant course, do not complete this form, but send your request to exams@soas.ac.uk. If you are given permission to re-attend a failed course, you must attend all classes, submit all coursework, and undertake all examinations and assessments, as if attending the course for the first time. This includes repeating elements of assessment completed in 2013/14 even if those elements were awarded a pass mark. The mark for a course passed after re-attending is not capped. Re-attending a course does not give you any additional rights of examination/assessment re-entry. For Postgraduate Students Only: ‘Repeating a course’ on this form includes revising and resubmitting your dissertation, if you want to receive supervision for your dissertation in 2014/15. If you wish to revise your dissertation for submission by 14 September 2015, working on your own and without receiving supervision, do not complete this form, but send your request to exams@soas.ac.uk. Approval procedure Application for repeating courses require the approval of the Undergraduate Year Tutor/Postgraduate Programme Convenor in your Department (or in both Departments if you are two-subject student). Year Tutors/Programme Convenors have the right to decline approval of repeat year applications. The staff in your Faculty Office will be able to tell you who your Year Tutor or Programme Convenor is, if you do not know. The Year Tutor/Programme Convenor may wish to meet you to discuss your application, or may require you to supply further information before he or she reaches a decision. It is your responsibility to contact the relevant person to find out whether he or she will approve your application. Faculty Office staff cannot do this for you. Tuition fee implications Tuition fees are due for re-attending a course and they are charged pro-rata. The tuition fee rates can be found at http://www.soas.ac.uk/registry/fees/. Repeating Studies for International Students International Students who wish to repeat courses as a part time student should be aware that this may have implications for their visa. Therefore, they should contact our International Student and Welfare Adviser to make sure that they comply with the immigration rules and complete the relevant paperwork. If SOAS is currently sponsoring you for your Tier 4 Student Visa, you may be required to undertake an additional course to enable us continue to sponsor you during your repeat studies and keep both you and us compliant with current Page 3 Repeat Course(s) Application Form (Part Time) Home Office rules and regulations.
