SOMERSET CHALLENGE. FAMILY C – DRAFT DELIVERY PLAN 2014 – 15 (Westfield, King Arthur’s, Whitstone, Maiden Beech, Kingsmead, Chilton Trinity, Selwood) The delivery plan for Family C will focus on improving the Quality of Teaching and Learning Objectives Activities Stakeholders to engage Indicative budget Outcomes INTRODUCTION This plan is proposed to outline activities that will be undertaken during the second year of a three year programme to improve the quality of Teaching and Learning across our Family of Schools The programme will seek to: Share strengths and development areas across the whole family Provide a personalised programme to meet the individual needs of each individual school involving staff at all stages of their careers Raise levels of achievement across all schools STRAND 1 To develop a secure understanding of the quality of Teaching and Learning in each of our schools. Host Head to identify any particular area(s) for focus during initial visit Learning Walks In conjunction with Heads, to agree up to three priorities for future development (projects) following feedback from observations All schools to share their development projects with all Family C schools Observation of lessons Joint Feedback /Observed feedback Observation of any relevant paperwork A minimum of 2 Heads to visit each school for a whole day Supply budget 7 x 2 x £200 Transport costs Host school to provide at least 2 Senior Leaders to conduct joint observations Quality of Teaching and Learning across host school discussed at end of Day 1 and areas of strength and development identified. Action Plan written and circulated across all Family C schools Success criteria clearly identified for each individual school STRAND 2 To revisit each school to assess the progress made with the Teaching & Learning development projects Focus : Action Plan from Strand 1 visits Learning Walks Joint Observations Analysis of lesson plans, Teaching & Learning observation data Discussion with Senior leader i/c Teaching & Learning. STRAND 3 To revisit each school to assess how the projects are being embedded into Teaching and Learning across individual departments (Departments to be selected by host Headteachers) At least two Senior Leaders (Deputy Heads /Assistant Heads) to visit each school Supply budget 7 x 2 x £200 Transport costs Host school to provide two senior/middle leaders to conduct joint learning walks/observations All schools to have raised the % of good and outstanding lessons by at least 5% At least 50% of Requires Improvement teaching to be now judged as good or better Senior Leader i/c Teaching and Learning Heads of Department to self-evaluate using DAIR (Data, Actions, Impact, Review) model and to present findings At least one Senior Leader and one Middle Leader from two separate schools to visit each Family C school Learning walks Host school to select subject area for review Supply budget 7 x 2 x £200 Transport costs All Departments judged at least good in terms of the quality of Teaching and Learning Action plans for Departments failing to secure “good” Joint Observations Analysis of lesson plans and data to show progress over time Host school to provide Senior/Middle Leaders to carry out joint learning walks and joint lesson observations. Less secure Departments to be buddied up with stronger departments from other Family C schools STRAND 4 To showcase high quality Teaching and Learning to NQTs/RQTS (and early entrants to the profession) giving staff new to the profession the opportunity to visit similar departments across other Family C schools STRAND 5 To assess the success of the development projects, sharing findings across all Family C schools Lesson Observations At least 2 NQTs/RQTs form each school to visit Analysis of resources and Schemes of Learning Supply budget 7 x 2 x £200 Transport costs Discussions with NQTs/RQTs across other schools To buddy staff up across Family C schools so that there is an exchange of Professional dialogue and sharing of lesson resources. Learning Walks Presentation of projects by all Family C schools (after school hours – TeachMeet type activity) To move at least 2 staff from each school to next category ie Requires improvement to good or good to outstanding Headteachers Senior Leaders Governors Transport Costs All schools to have been successful in moving forward on at least two development areas (as measured by their individual success criteria) Governors involved in Middle Leaders assessing the success of the projects and Newly qualified developing further their Teachers knowledge and understanding of school improvement work STRAND 6 – LOOP BACK TO STRAND 1 & BEGIN PROCESS AGAIN WITH AMENDED/NEW AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT
