SEPTEMBER 12 and 13
This week in History:
September 11, 1973: Chilean Army deposes democratically elected president Salvador Allende.
September 11, 2001: Terrorists hijack four American planes and attack the cities of New York and Washington D.C.
LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE: We will write a letter using the RAFT strategy.
CONTENT OBJECTIVE: We will explain the importance of the Nile River for Ancient Egypt.
1. TUESDAY’S JOURNAL: Imagine that a girl finds a suitcase full of money hidden under a bridge. She decides to keep it for
herself. Describe what happens next.
2. Let’s recall what we know about the Nile River.
3. In your teams, you will read aloud a passage titled the Annual Nile River Flood. Take turns and help each other. After each
paragraph, STOP and discuss what you have learned.
4. In your teams, you will create three drawings representing different ideas of what you have read. You will write sentences
below each drawing to explain it.
5. You will present it to the class.
6. RAFT activity. I will explain how to write using the strategy RAFT. I will model.
7. You will assume the role of a farmer during Ancient Egypt. You will write a letter to a cousin in another country, telling
them the benefits of the Nile River.
8. You will type it using Word or Google Docs.
9. Ask a friend to check your work.
10. Upload it to my folder on Google Drive.
