ADDITIONAL SOCIAL EVENTS Dear Delegate You might be interested in attending some interesting events that are taking place in and around the campus during your stay at the RWL8 Conference. These events are listed below: Whisky Tasting taking place on Wednesday 19th June at 5.30pm – 6.30pm*, Stirling Management Centre: The whisky tasting will be a tasting of six single malts showcasing the regional variations of Scottish whisky. We will be tasting a whisky from each of the recognised production areas; Speyside, Islay, The Highlands, The Lowlands, Campbeltown and The Islands, to see how and why they differ. The whiskies will be from some of the most highly regarded distilleries and in some cases will be unique single cask bottling’s that will never be repeated. This is a great opportunity for complete beginners to gain an understanding of Scottish single malts and enjoy some unique flavours; and for whisky connoisseurs to taste some utterly unique single cask whiskies. Please sign up by completing the attached form Art Collection Tour taking place on Thursday 20th June at 5.05pm – 6.05pm*, Pathfoot Building, University of Stirling: The first Principal, Tom Cottrell was a scientist who championed the establishment of an art collection as he believed that art should be "part of the everyday experience at the University". Thanks to Tom Cottrell’s stewardship, the University of Stirling is privileged to be custodians of a unique art collection that includes fourteen works by J D Fergusson, gifted to us by his widow Margaret Morris. Over 40 years later, the Art Collection now includes art works covering the spectrum of modern Scottish painting and sculpture, including works by John Bellany, Elizabeth Blackadder, Alan Davie, Joan Eardley, Eduardo Paolozzi and Anne Redpath. The Art Collection has contributed greatly to the aesthetic and cultural life of the University of Stirling since its foundation in 1967. The collection is recognised and promoted by The University of Stirling as something that sets the campus and life at the University apart. The University of Stirling Strategic Plan 2011-2016 and a new Campus Masterplan place the art collection at its core. Specific sites have been identified for sculpture, soft sculpture (sound and light installation within the wooded areas) and sculpture walks within the Loch Park at the heart of the campus. The University continues to invest in the Art Collection although it is recognised that economic challenges mean broader support and funding is required.
