Accounting Journal Rankings
Includes Finance and Tax
Using the ABS and ABDC rankings as a starting point, faculty in each discipline will decide on journals in the
discipline that should be included in the list of tiers 1, 2, and 3. Those journals will be entered in the appropriate
table below.

Highest quality journal, highest selectivity, international audience, significant impact on advancement of theory or practice
in a discipline
Raking: ABS rank 4, ABDC rank A or top tier in another ranking system

Journal
Higher quality journal, selective, national audience, impacts a discipline’s theory and practice
Ranking: ABS rank 3 or 2, or ABDC rank B, or second tier in another ranking system

Refereed journal, national or regional audience
Ranking: ABS rank 1, ABDC rank C, or third tier in another ranking system

All other peer-reviewed journals
The starting points for these rankings are two widely used journal ranking lists: ABS (Association of Business Schools) and
ABDC (Australian Business Deans Council).
Rankings in the ABS list were standardized as 4* (a world elite journal); 4 (a top journal); 3 (a highly regarded journal); 2 (a
well-regarded journal); and 1 (a recognized journal).
The ABDC list groups the journals into A* (best or leading journal in its field); A (highly regarded journal in the field or
subfield); B (well-regarded journal in the field or subfield); C (recognized journal). The Harzing’s 52nd edition Journal Quality
List (2014) was also taken into account in the compilation process.
