Classroom News Newsletter Page 3 Two Year Old’s News Mrs. Terranova and Ms. Murphy This past month, we have been exploring in our block center. When we build with blocks we learn to select, plan, and work on a project. We feel pride in our finished product and love to show off our work. We have been using large Legos. We love separating the colors and building with them. We also use soft blocks to build with. They love to see how tall they can build without them falling down. We love putting puzzles together. When we put puzzles together we learn to develop skills in visual perception and shape recognition by putting the pieces in the appropriate space. We enjoy some of our puzzles that play music when you place the piece in the correct place. The children have also enjoyed playing in our Dramatic play area. I love watching them engage in social conversations and cooperate with their peers. During this interaction they have to share and problem solve. They get to use their imagination and explore with feelings. We did a lot of Easter crafts this month. We used Easter foam cut outs to make a beautiful picture. We also made a chick out of our handprint. We thought getting our hand painted tickled!! I would like to take this time and say thank you to our homeroom mom’s Beckie Keen (Sylvie’s mom) and Megan Tiberi (Lola’s mom) for all their hard work this year. All our parties were planned perfectly and the children had so much fun! I also would like to thank Jennifer Bowers (Chase’s mom) for helping me with our Scholastic Book Orders. Reading is so important because books help children with their language development, can enrich children’s lives, can help enhance children’s social skills; helps improve hand and eye coordination, plus good clean fun!!! **Important Dates** Spring Arts Night—May 14th Family Picnic at Banning Park-TBA End of School Program-May 23rd Three Year Olds Mrs. Jack and Mrs. Robertson It’s hard to believe that the school year is almost over. It has been a privilege to watch and help your children grow. April was so much fun! We started the month celebrating “The Week of the Young Child”. This was a very special week for us all because we had many special visitors and celebrations. We were visited by Annie’s Menagerie which was so much fun because we saw and learned about different animals like the turtle, the rabbit, the chinchilla and even the hedgehog! It was a wonderful day! We also had a Pajama Day, a Movie Day and even an Ice Cream Party – it was a very fun week! April continued with our Easter Celebrations where we learned about the true meaning of Easter. We made beautiful stained glass crosses and equally beautiful Easter Eggs. There are definitely some very talented artists in our class! This of course was followed by our Spring Break and our preparations for Spring Arts Night. May comes so very fast and is always packed with so much fun! Our school year will conclude with our continued preparations for Spring Arts Night, our special Mother’s Day project, our school trip and of course our end of year picnic. We will also be working very hard on our songs for the end of year program. It will be a great way to end a wonderful year! We would also to take a moment to thank our wonderful homeroom moms: Mrs. Manley (2 day class) and Mrs. Hoopes (3 day class). Our jobs are made so much easier when we have such awesome people helping us! Thank you to all our wonderful families….Have a fun and blessed summer. Hope to see you next fall! Classroom News Newsletter Page 4 Three Year Olds Mrs. Del Grosso and Mrs. Flachier We started out the month of April celebrating the Week of the Young Child. We had a visit from Annie’s Menagerie, had a make your own pizza party, an ice cream sundae party, pajama day and we watched a movie with all our school friends and ate popcorn just like in a movie theater. Next it was time to prepare for Easter. We made beautiful stained glass crosses to hang in our windows and lots of bunnies, chicks and eggs to decorate our classroom and hallway. When we returned from our Easter break, we found ourselves right in the middle of fairy tale land! Each day the children are busy working on wonderful projects to display for you on Spring Arts Night! They are hoping to create a space where you can walk right into fairy tale land and share one of their favorite fairy tales. Please come and join us for a very special evening. Mrs. Flachier and I are very proud of all the boys and girls in our class. Each child had grown so much this year and learned so many things through their play. Their enthusiasm for learning inspired and challenged us as educators. Although we are sad that they are leaving us, we appreciate that you entrusted them to us and we are assured that they leave us confident and ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of their world. Pre-K Mrs. Burdett It is hard to believe this is the last newsletter I will be writing this school year. Time flies when you are having fun! In April we had a great time learning about all things Spring! We started off talking about the weather and how it is important for it to rain in April so that flowers and trees can grow. When we see robins flying around we know spring is in the air! We made our own version of a robin red breast to hang in our hallway at school! They turned out spectacular! We took the end of the month and discussed Easter. We know the Easter bunny comes but we also know that God died on the cross for us. We hope you enjoyed the Easter crafts we made as we worked very hard on them! Before we left for Spring break we planted flower seeds. They started to grow a little before break but when we got back we discovered they grew a whole lot! Not only did we plant flowers we made flowers out of paper and our gorgeous pictures. We use all sorts of material in pre-k! The week of the young child is always so much excitement for the children. We had something special planned every day for them to partake during their morning at school. From the ice cream parties to the cuddly animals; we had a blast! Our trip to Mary Campbell is always successful. The children were greeted so warmly by the residents and staff at the center. I was so proud of all the students for using such great manners the entire time we were there! Way to go, Pre-k! In May, we are going to be learning about farm life and preparing for our Spring Arts Night. Remember to come and support your child on May 14 th. We will also be practicing end of the year songs in preparation of our program on the 23rd. Please mark your calendars and be sure to attend we promise great entertainment. It has been my pleasure to teach your child every day! I love my job and having wonderful children and parents make me love it even more! Stay well and have a summer to remember! God Bless! Classroom News chool Newsletter School Newsletter Pre-K School Newsletter Newsletter Page 5 Mrs. Hawk, Mrs. Zabielski and Miss Arms S Page 3 of 4 Page 3 of 4 We finally finished our bodies!!! Hurray!! It was a long and arduous task but we didn’t give up and we followed all our internal systems from start to finish! It was a fun and yes, sometimes gross experiment but we learned so much! Now when we play “Teacher Says” it becomes much more complicated. Putting your right phalange on your left clavicle is quite a feat! We will leave our bodies in the hallways, then we will send them home to grace your walls. Just think, you already have a Halloween decoration. Speaking of decorations; we didn’t really get a chance to decorate for Easter. It came so fast and we were so busy, but we did make sure we colored our eggs. It was important that we remembered why we celebrate Easter, so we painted some stained glass crosses to remember Jesus and still managed to have time to make some Easter bunnies. The Easter bunnies were busy at The Mary Campbell Center this month. Well, it was really Miss Arms and her friends there who hid an enormous amount of eggs for us to find. We had such a good time visiting Miss Arms’ home. We went on a tour of the facility and ended our visit with some play time on their playground. We had a very nice day, and everyone was on their best behavior. Our students are always the best. That’s why we make sure we celebrate them every year during the Week of the Young Child. It was a fun-packed week! Making our worn pizzas, ice cream party, visiting with Annie’s Menagerie, and a movie day. One of the best parts of movie day was when the entire school joined in when they sand Let It Go from the movie Frozen. In May, we will finish our number and alphabet units. It has taken us all year to complete these units, but it is so important to make sure we write our letters and numbers correctly. Many students have been practicing their envelope games and collecting those prizes, and I know we are going to have a record number of homework awards this year! As with all our work, we are working on building a strong foundation that will help our students as they move on to kindergarten. Thinking of our students moving on to kindergarten brings about bittersweet feelings. Mrs. Zabielski , Miss Arms and I are so proud of our class! We can’t believe how much they have grown and matured. Those little feet that entered our classroom in September, are now confident, responsible boys and girls who strut into their room and know just what to do. We have asked a lot of them this year, and they never disappointed us. They took ownership of their responsibilities (and there were many) and made sure they completed their jobs before playing. Work first; then fun. Story time was really a fun time with this class. Every book was a fantasy that our students entered into with gusto and made reading to them so enjoyable! I loved it! We loved so many things about this class, but I really think their care and concern for one another was their best asset. Not only did they win frog awards and smelly bracelets for their many good deeds and, they even shared their rewards with their friends! How about that? That is a special group of friends. It was a special year all around. As we say goodbye, it is our heartfelt wish that we have given them just a bit of what they have given us. We have learned so much as we were teaching. It was such a pleasure spending our mornings with them. Each one of them will take a little piece of our hearts with them. I tell everyone I meet, that teaching preschool is the best job in the entire world and your children are the reason why. A heartfelt thank you Mrs. Carla Papa, our homeroom mom who even though she worked full time and was pregnant, she made sure all our events went off without a hitch. nature. Thank you to Miss Dawn Arms who brought us sunshine every Friday with her sunny smile and her gentle Thank you so much to Mrs. Ellen Zabielski who is the best person to work with. I would not want to work with anyone else; and I think she is the only person who would agree to work with me. Have a great summer! Good luck in Kindergarten and don’t forget to visit! Classroom News Page 6 Kindergarten Mrs. Roehm It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is not far off. The year has gone by quickly, and the Kindergartners have grown in so many ways over these months. It has been exciting to see their individual progress and to witness their growth as a group. Each of your children has brought such joy and happiness to our classroom. I was so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of children this past year. It has been my pleasure getting to know not only your child, but you as well. Having parental support and open lines of communication is an essential part of any successful school year. Thank you for all you have done to make our year so fulfilling and memorable. I'm summary, our kinders have learned so much in these past nine months! We learned about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and punctuation. We used these skills to learn to write. We learned many new sight words, word families, and a phonics chant to help them read. We learned how to add and subtraction, how to complete complex patterns, and all about money. We learned about our community, seasons, and holidays around the world. These are only a handful of all the things your child has learned about this year. Over the summer vacation, I strongly encourage you to read to your child every day, practice handwriting in both upper and lower case, and practice counting—both orally and in writing, and to review the sight words that we have been working on all year. Doing one or two of these activities each day over the summer vacation will help to keep your child’s skills sharp. Lastly, room 6 would like to thank our homeroom mom, Mrs. Beauparlant. Thank you for all of your help and support this school year. With your help we were able to achieve organized, memorable celebrations and events. The year has gone by too quickly. It will be hard to say good-bye to this fantastic group of children! Thank you for making my first full year of teaching unforgettable! Have a fantastic summer and good luck next year my little kinders! Extended Care Mrs. Hultberg, Ms. Murphy and Mrs. Sadowski In the last few weeks, when we weren’t busy with school work and play, the children have been drawing their impressions of art. We are now imitating the great impressionists in our own way. Artists like Monet and his Haystacks, Matisse’s Man in the Grass, Klee’s Woman in Native Costume and Cezanne’s Basic Shapes. We will even draw under the tables on our back just like Michelangelo did when he painted the Sistine Chapel. In the end of the year doesn’t creep up on us too fast, we will extend our drawing expertise by learning to draw stick men, houses, trees and flowers. I can bet a space man or two will fall into that group too. I have so enjoyed working and playing with your children this year. I hope many of them return. I will say a very sad goodbye to all my little ones who are moving on. God loves you. Special Classes Page 7 Espanol Senora Robertson ! Hola y adios! Looking forward to seeing all the returning children in Septembre! Muchas gracias! Adios! Music and Movement Mrs. Jack Can you believe that it’s almost summer? We have had so much fun this year it’s sad to think it is almost over! In April, we did a lot of different activities. We reviewed our jumping skills by going through a jumping circuit. The circuit allowed the children to show various jumping methods. The children also worked on improving their hitting skills by hitting a ball off a tee with a bat. Our 4 year old and Kindergarten classes were even able to use a skinny “Whiffle Ball” bat. In May, we will finish up with one more “Game Day”. The children will learn how to play our own version of volleyball. As usual, our year will end with an obstacle course that will use many of our newly found skills. I would like to wish everyone a fun-filled summer break and I really hope many of you will be back next year! I had a great time working with all the children and feel honored to have been a part of their lives this past year. It was amazing to watch them grow and blossom. To our graduating Kindergarten class, you were a small but mighty class and I wish you all the best in the future. You have been absolutely wonderful to work with and I will miss you all very much! Thank you for coming to class every week with smiles on your faces and ready for action. Take that attitude and enthusiasm with you wherever you go! Have a great summer!
