Optimizing the Volume of a Box Project Your task: Redesign seven different rectangular boxes to maximize the volume of each box and create one of the optimized boxes out of any material. What’s required: A before and after sketch of each box’s net with the corners added to make the net a rectangle (including the dimensions) The equation for the maximum volume of each box A graph for each box’s equation A model of one of the boxes with its maximum volume A final summary of your work as well as answers to questions that will be provided Plan of action: Each day you will fill out a daily checklist summarizing your progress. Monday: Measure the seven boxes and begin sketching the nets Tuesday: Build the equations for the volume of each box Wednesday: Draw graphs of each equation Thursday: Continue working on graphs and start finding the maximums of each box Friday: Finish up all sketches, equations, and graphs Rubric: Original Sketches: Sketch of each box with original dimensions Optimized Sketches: Sketch of each box with optimized dimensions Equations: Equations of each optimized box Graphs: Graph of each equation, with title and each axis labeled Daily Write-up: Submitted individually each day prior to leaving class with both a daily summary and a plan of action for the next day Model: One three dimension model, with exact measurements of an optimized box Final Summary: Summary of all of your work as well as answers to questions provided Final Score: __________/7 __________/7 ________/14 ________/14 __________/8 ________/10 ________/10 ________/70 Project due on Thursday, March 26
