AADO is seeking an experienced and skilled people manager to join its small team as a part time
volunteer, to take on the role of Volunteer Co-ordinator. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will work closely
with AADO’s Communications and Development Manager and the Fundraising Sub-Committee to lead
and manage a team of skilled volunteers in delivering events that form a key part of AADO’s
fundraising plan. It is estimated that the position will be for 2 days per week and an initial commitment
of 9 months is required.

The Afghan Australian Development Organisation (AADO) provides education and training in Afghanistan for
those with minimal opportunities, in particular women, to foster sustainable livelihoods and develop professional
skills.
AADO has a proven track record of high outcome, low cost programs which are delivered by local project staff with
deep community networks and trusted relationships.
About the role: Volunteer Co-ordinator
This is a new role created to assist the Manager Communications and Development to deliver events that form part
of AADO’s Communications and Income Generation plan which aims to build significant levels of support for the
work of AADO amongst the Australian public. The Volunteer Co-ordinator role will play a central role in the
organisation by recruiting, leading and managing a team of volunteers to resource the implementation of the
operational plan, specifically in event management.
Working closely with the Manager Communications and Development and with the Fundraising Subcommittee, the
Volunteer Co-ordinator ’s role is a significant part of the AADO leadership team.
Experience and skills required
This voluntary role requires an experienced people manager with proven project management experience in the
NFP sector. The successful applicant will have a strong track record as a volunteer or professional fundraiser or
events manager and will have excellent project implementation and leadership skills. Their event and fundraising
experience will have achieved financial and supporter targets. Familiarity with the Community Sector and Not for
Profit organisations would be a distinct advantage.

Key Functions of the role
Implement the agreed fundraising and events workplan

Deliver agreed activities set out in AADO’s fundraising and events plan to achieve targets, in particular
regular Trivia Nights; Movie nights; other Third Party events
Create new fundraising opportunities and strategies as appropriate and agreed by Fundraising Sub
Committee
Organise Afghan celebration events which include a dinner at the end of Ramadan, the Afghan New Year
and other multicultural events
Volunteer staff supervision

Recruit, lead and manage a team of Volunteers to implement the plan in a timely manner
Liaise with the Manager Communications and Development on volunteer staff matters
Reporting and Accountability

Meet weekly with AADOs Communications and Development Manager to co-ordinate volunteer efforts,
set weekly goals and review progress
Liaise with and work closely with AADO Fundraising Sub-Committee
Report progress on the agreed plan to the Fundraising Sub-Committee as required
Work closely with the Manager and provide timely advice about issues arising from the use of volunteers
and progress on the agreed workplan

Successful experience in fundraising and event management
Proven project leadership and implementation skills
Excellent people management skills and communications skills
Experience in preparing and monitoring event budgets
Experience and understanding of the community sector/not for profit settings
A passion for making a difference for women and girls in Afghanistan
