The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science at the University of South Wales is currently seeking
applications for a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security.
The School of Computing & Mathematics is a dynamic part of the University which is active in research and
consultancy, underpinned by a rapidly expanding Cyber Security Degree Programme. The School has a wide
range of research interests, which this post is intended to enhance.
The successful candidate will possess a range of skills necessary to complement and enhance scholarly activity
within the School, and to assist its growing reputation both locally and internationally. With excellent
communication skills and a commitment to high quality teaching, the successful candidate will lecture on a range
of undergraduate/postgraduate modules within the field of Cyber Security. Your contribution to research and
consultancy will be strongly encouraged and supported by the School as a member of the Information Security
Research Group.

Main Purpose of Job:
The Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security will contribute to the delivery of the School’s undergraduate cyber security
awards specifically in the delivery of computer security/computer forensics modules at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels. You will be responsible for effective, high quality teaching and scholarly activity and the
undertaking of applied research, knowledge transfer and income generation activities.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:












Teach on established courses of study, engaging students with lectures, tutorials and seminars, and to
supervise academic tutor groups, final year projects and student placements
Utilise effective assessment methods and to ensure that adequate, detailed and timely feedback is
privded to students
Undertake/contribute to the development of the curriculum within the Computer Security and Computer
Forensics subject areas and to contribute to the maintenance and development of existing modules and
awards. This will include developing own teaching materials, methods and approaches to new areas,
including new modules as appropriate
Maintain a personal research/consultancy portfolio and demonstrate scholarly practice which enhances
teaching and the research profile of the subject area. This might also include leading collaborative
projects, identifying sources of funding and securing grant allocations
Participate in professional duties such as Computer Security and Computer Forensics Open Days,
Applicant Days and other recruitment activities as required
Participate in the School’s Outreach Programme, including the development and delivery of inspirational
lectures for school pupils
Engage with the University’s quality assessment processes, eg, annual monitoring, module evaluation leading processes in areas where there is allocated leadership responsibility (e.g., Module Leadership)
Attend Course/Subject/Award boards as required
Undertake appropriate levels of pastoral care for students, ensuring interpersonal skills are adequately
developed
Undertake continuous personal and professional development which ensures full fitness to practice in
the role of senior lectuer
Comply with University policies relating to health and safety, equality of opportunity and data
management
Act as a mentor to less experienced staff


To be a subject, course or award leader, as determined in conjunction with the Academic Manager for
Cyber Security. This will normally be for subjects, courses or awards of reasonable complexity and will
involve co-ordinating and communicating effectively with colleagues and students, and where
appropriate identifying and developing new modules and awards

the Head of School
