CITY OF CORNELL
MINUTES OF ORGANIZATIONAL COMMON COUNCIL MEETING
APRIL 15, 2014
7:00 p.m. Mayor Judy Talbot called the organizational council meeting to order at the City Council
Chambers. The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence honoring all
individuals that have or are protecting our freedom. Minutes taken by Administrator/ClerkTreasurer DeJongh.
Council members present: Terry Smith, Steve Turany, Floyd Hickethier, Mark Nodolf and Eb
Ballinger. Absent: Glen Logan.
Guests present: Kayla Peche, Mark Larson & Pat Talbot.
DeJongh swore in newly elected officials Mayor Judy Talbot and alderpersons Terry Smith, Eb
Ballinger & Steve Turany.
Motion Hickethier, seconded Turany to accept the agenda as printed. Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
Motion Nodolf, seconded Turany to approve the regular council meeting minutes of April 3, 2014.
Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
Nodolf reported on Finance Committee Meeting held earlier. Committee approved hiring Abbigail
Klein to fill the vacant part-time custodial position at a rate of $11.00/hr. Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
Motion Hickethier, Seconded Turany to nominate Mark Nodolf for Council President. No other
nominations were received. Roll Call Vote Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
Motion Nodolf, Seconded Ballinger to approve the Mayor’s Appointments of Officials &
Committees dated April 15, 2014 with the three modifications. Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
A special informational open house meeting is going to be held in the Council Chambers on April 24,
2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to discuss this year street reconstruction project.
The 2014 Board of Review is set for May 14, 2014, 4 – 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Open
Book will be the same day from 2 – 4 p.m.
Motion Hickethier, Seconded Turany to approve bills totaling $78,901.44. Roll Call Vote Carried 5
ayes, 1 absent.
Upcoming Events:
o American Legion Chicken Dinner is set for April 27, 2014.
o Outdoor Ed-Ventures is set for April 27, 2014.
o Spring sporting events will be kicking off with weather now breaking.
o Excellence in Education Banquet is set for April 30, 2014.
Motion Nodolf, Seconded Hickethier, to adjourn. Carried 5 ayes, 1 absent.
