WiSAR Lab
“Exciting Opportunities in Wireless Research”
The Wireless Sensor Applied Research (WiSAR) Lab is a national centre in wireless sensor
network research based at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT), Donegal, Ireland. The
WiSAR Lab has recently been awarded funding by Enterprise Ireland through the
Technology Gateway programme. This new project will see the WiSAR Lab expand its role as
a centre of excellence working with companies and research groups across the island and in
particular across the North West.
Centre Manager – (5 Year fixed-term contract)
Salary €53k to €65k – (depending on experience)
To support this major research programme we wish to recruit a Centre Manager with
extensive technical project management and business development experience. You will have
the capacity to consolidate and develop existing and new research, together with a proven
record of success in national and international research funding schemes. Ideally the Centre
Manager will also have a proven record of success in the process of technology transfer and
commercialisation of intellectual property.
Applicants should have an honours degree in Telecommunications, Electronic or Computer
Engineering. They should have significant relevant post-graduate industrial experience and
demonstrate a minimum three years project management business development experience.
Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Engineers - (5 Year fixed-term contracts)
The WiSAR Lab is also seeking to recruit highly motivated Postdoctoral Researchers or
Research Engineers to undertake leading edge research in the development of wireless senor
network solutions such as Wireless Body Area Networks. The successful applicants will work
on transferring this knowledge to a wide range of industry clients. Applicants should have a
PhD in Telecommunications, Electronic or Computer Engineering, Information Engineering
or in a related discipline. Experience in writing research funding proposals, in particular EU
Framework proposals is desired. A relevant publication track record in quality journals and
conferences is required.
Research Engineer 1 - RF and Wireless Development
€33k - €46k – (depending on experience)
The WiSAR Lab is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral RF Research Engineer to undertake
research and design work in the development of RF devices and wireless sensor networks in
the field of Wireless Body Area Networks. It is desirable that you will have at least three
years postgraduate academic or industrial experience in the following areas: RF/microwave
circuit and system design, low power UHF and microwave antenna design and test, RF
circuit and network simulation and implementation, wireless network design, evaluation of
RF propagation channels, testing in anechoic and reverberation chamber, and indoor Radio
Planning and characterization
Research Engineer 2 - Embedded Systems
€33k - €46k – (depending on experience)
The WiSAR Lab is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to
undertake leading edge research in the development of ultra-low-power protocols for
deployment in wireless senor network solutions such as body area networks. It is desirable
that you will have at least three years of experience in the following areas: Modelling and
implementation of low-power communication protocols in wireless sensor networks,
Knowledge of IEEE 802.15 standards, Programming low-power microcontrollers,
Experience of digital design technologies, Internetworking of heterogeneous wireless and
mobile devices, RF/microwave circuit and system design with simulation and
implementation, and Wireless network planning.
Electrical and Electronics Engineer
(3 year fixed-term contract)
€39k - €46k – (depending on experience)
If you’re an electrical or electronic engineer with electronics design or microcontroller
firmware development experience – this may be the role for you. As a key member of a
talented team, you will be responsible for researching, designing and developing
communications and control systems for a range of new electrical power conversion systems.
It is essential that the candidate has at least three years of industry design experience,
preferably with a focus on power electronics design including analogue and digital circuit
design and experience with the following: Microcontrollers used in control and
communications of electronics systems, Power semiconductors (IGBTs, MOSFETs) and
related passives (DC link capacitors) in high power applications, Gate drive circuits for
control and protection of high power semiconductors.
Applicants should have a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or in a related
discipline.
Applications Programmer/Engineer (2 year fixed-term contract)
Salary: €32k - €39k (depending on experience)
This is a role for an experienced Linux application developer. You will be responsible for
researching, designing and developing applications software for embedded systems. You
should have several years Linux debug experience in large systems with a good
understanding of hardware. A degree/ diploma in Computing or Electronic Engineering
with proven experience in a commercial/industry focused design environment are essential.
It is desirable that you have experience in the following: Apache HTTP Server, MySQL
(database software), and PHP, Perl or Python; Linux Kernel / device driver or User Space
experience.
Firmware Engineer
(2 year fixed-term contract)
Salary: €32k
If you’re an electronic engineer with PCB design and microcontroller firmware development
experience – this may be the role for you. As a key member of a talented team, you will be
responsible for researching, designing and developing a range of new wireless
communications products including medical applications. Ideally you will have a proven
track record in designing and writing firmware to implement radio protocol stacks, and in
developing, supporting and testing embedded firmware for implementing Physical and MAC
software layers. You will specify firmware requirement from standards documents or other
high level requirements for the development of Low Power Radio products. You will define,
install and maintain tool chains, documentation, revision control, and simulation and
emulation environments. You will write, design, develop and troubleshoot firmware code in
low and high level languages.
