Company Overview
The Waste Group was established in 1986 and has since grown to one of the leading waste
management groups in South Africa. Our depots are in Gauteng, North West Province, KwaZuluNatal, Limpopo, Orange Free State and Mpumalanga. The Waste Group owns and manages two
permitted GLB- Landfill Sites in Bon Accord, North of Pretoria and Mooiplaats, between Pretoria and
Johannesburg.
We are the first waste management company in South Africa to achieve ISO 14001 (2008)
certification, for all our depots and major operations. The Waste Group's projects and initiatives have
drawn recognition by numerous organizations including being awarded a Top 500 Company for a few
consecutive years.
The core essence of our company is offering a sustainable solution for a "greener tomorrow". We are
committed to providing holistic, environmentally friendly and economically viable waste management
solutions to all our clients. We are proud to be a unique leader in the waste management industry,
where emphasis is placed on exceptional services to all clients, irrespective of size.
The Waste Group Recycling
The Waste Group "Recycling Division" has taken up the responsibility and involvement of ensuring a
friendlier planet. We have been continuously developing and sourcing technology pertaining to the
efficient utilization of resources, ensuring responsible handling of waste as well as reducing the waste
content bound for landfill by maximising the removal of recyclable material.
Materials Recovery Facility
The development of a workable and economically viable Materials Recovery Facility, (MRF) in Bon
Accord, Pretoria is a testament of innovation and dedication to the global cause. This Recycling
Centre is a licensed and authorised facility adhering to all the required mandatory legislation. The
MRF facilitates the sorting, baling and supplying tons of material annually to Recycling manufacturing
plants. Our MRF can accommodate 18 different material waste streams resulting into servicing many
waste streams in one single location. This includes dry mixed recyclable waste (landfill bound),
sorted bulk product (Industrial) as well as small bulk (Hawker, Household) inputs. The ease and
speed of delivering recyclables to the MRF is a key factor in ascertaining participation from the public
at large. Operating the MRF has given us the advantage of accepting mixed recyclables. Sorting gets
done through a number of innovation machinery and manual picking lines.
All recyclables gets directed to a number of Recycling Manufacturing Plants such as; PET (Plastic
cold drink bottles, water bottles etc) which then gets transformed into new bottles, clothing etc. while
white A4 paper may end up as toilet paper for example. Our aim is to continuously educate our
community, schools on the necessity and advantages of recycling.
On-site Waste
On-Site Waste is another service we provide to our clients. Dedicated staff members manage your
waste streams on-site to ensure recycling is maximised to your benefit. The recyclables are
transferred to our Materials Recovery Facility in Bon Accord for processing.
Curbside Recycling
We are proud to present a new, exciting and cost effective concept that ensures recycling gets done
properly and will benefit all. This initiative is fully supported by "City of Tshwane" Simply split your
WET from DRY waste! It is as simple as that! Keep all wet waste; food refuse, garden refuse and
hazardous materials from your recyclable material and its ready to be sorted at our Bon Accord
Recovery Centre, Pretoria. Your dry waste (recyclables) will be; Paper: Flattened and folded
cardboard, any paper, newspapers & magazines Glass: Rinsed bottles and jars, Plastics: Any
bags, rinsed bottles and containers, Metal: Rinsed food tins, cans and scrap metal, Tetra Pak: Foillined juice boxes and milk containers.
We started "Curbside Collection" in March 2014 with only 1 vehicle and 3 workers. As expected we
encountered some challenges such as, getting to know the areas, training of staff, obtaining the
correct vehicles for the collections and finalizing the collection dates. We are proud to announce that
we have grown substantially and currently have a fleet of 7 vehicle and 30 workers.
Herewith the amount of recyclables collected in Arcadia area. March 2500 kg, April 2150 kg, May
2810 kg, June 3100 kg, July 3250 kg, Augustus 2980 kg, September 3620 kg, October 4200 kg.
