“Third scenario”- earlier phasing of mass transit and active transportation projects that wouldn’t
rely on widening highways with more MLs; make transit, bicycling and walking more convenient,
faster, and cheaper; use funds now to invest in these type of projects
Want to know how the projects will be funded- some support for increasing Transnet/taxes,
reference to Los Angeles’ ‘30 in 10 plan’, businesses need to help more
Approval of strengthening the existing corridors/routes rather than building out/building more
highway MLs; convert existing lanes, mass transit on I-5 corridor
Limited availability of transit for those living outside area of existing corridors.
Bike paths- expand and accelerate bike/ped projects to create cleaner and healthier
transportation choices; safe bikeways from Sorrento Valley COASTER station to UCSD and zip
code area 92081-5002; want bike lanes in National City and ability to bike from San Ysidro to
Downtown, want bike access from Balboa or Clairemont Trolley stations for bikes to cross I-5,
East Mission Bay
Drivers who work in multiple locations- expand BRT/transit to job centers, get more jobs near
the population/living areas
Approval of the Mid-Coast Trolley, Street cars, and Trolley line enhancements but want a
solution now to beach access.
Need more focus on military transportation- MURPH is inadequate; get DOT and DOD support
money to implement “Remote Front Gate” (RFG); buses should go to the end of Rosecrans so
the people who work at the Navy facility would commute to work
Airport transit- bus/shuttle to and from the airport from Downtown and Point Loma; shuttle
from airport to Trolley
Want more transit frequency and later run times- COASTER (every 15-20 minutes all day), Rapid,
buses, Trolley
Bus/Trolley fares-negotiate bus/transit passes for all colleges built into fees to gain riders; fares
are fair for seniors and students but too expensive for many adults
Want more North County transit options to travel down to South County and East County (La
Mesa, Santee, etc.); and more frequent transit (ex. bus) trips to and from these locations
Want more service in East County
Concerns about GHG and emissions with the expansion of the highways (I-5), which in turn
encourages more drivers. Scenarios don’t meet environment goals set by California governor.
Trolley- make Trolley big enough for Chargers game-goers, want a Trolley expansion from Mira
Mesa to Escondido along the I-15
Rail transportation needs to go where residents and tourists want to go. 1) airport 2) the beach
3) Balboa Park 4) Sea World 5) malls 6) hospitals and schools and needs to travel distances to
Tierrasanta, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar, Temecula.
HOV lanes on I-5 from Oceanside to San Clemente versus Toll lanes; HOV lanes on I-15 from
Escondido to Temecula versus Toll lanes

Highway 76 conversion from an Expressway to a freeway because of commuters to/from
Southwest Riverside County and the new community at 76/I-15 and Indian tribal casinos
Concern about bus layover in core Columbia neighborhood with increased number of buses
traveling on Broadway, leading to concentration of air pollution and noise in one neighborhood.
Truck traffic- improve freight rail service as a priority to get trucks off freeways; incentivize;
construct all double-track projects at the same time to save time.
More bike capacity on buses
Need to address elderly access to transit
