Instruction for the preparation of the manuscript
for Polish Scientific Publishers PWN
Guidelines for authors and translators
A. Meritorical preparation of publishing material:
1. Main text
a) division into chapters and sections should be used consequently to an indication
of the chapter (section) and its title; should be compatible with the accepted
organizing concept of the book;
b) uniform and consistently applied distinctions: bold (for the determination of the
awarded symbols, fonts, concepts etc. in the work of linguistic, mathematical, et
al.), italic (for titles, defined concepts, new terms), spacing (text fragments no
longer than one line, do not space dates);
c) quotations should be marked by quotes marks and information about the source
in footnote, and to denote omission use the mark [...]; extensive quotes writes
from the paragraph, separating them from the main text with a double-spaced
from the top and from the bottom; quotes texts translated into Polish should be
cited according to the latest Polish translations, together with the source and the
name of the translator;
d) record names, names, given names, geographical names, etc. should be used
according to the rules set out in the Universal dictionary of the Polish language,
Vol. 1-4, ed. S. Dubisz, WN PWN, Warsaw 2003, New dictionary proper
Polish, ed. A. Markowski, WN PWN, Warsaw 2002 and later, and New
dictionary spelling, ed. E. Polanski, WN PWN, Warsaw 2002 and later; in cases

e) illustrations, charts, and maps with descriptions should be prepared separately
and mark with registration number (next, also on the illustration package, and if
illustrations are prepared in electronic form, the name of the file should be the
same as the registration number used in the text). The text should indicate the
number of the proposed position. Signatures of the illustration material can be
placed in the text, or all together separately;
f) tables can be placed in the text or separately, they should be marked with the
registration number, symbol should be introduced in the proposed location to
place the table in the text.
2. footnotes:
a) the numbering within a chapter or the whole work should be consistent with
adopted concept of the book;
b) The most commonly placed at the bottom of the page, or - if there is a
need for a separate grouping - the end of the chapter, or to the end of the
manuscript;
c) Bibliographic note by example:

5. Transcription of names and titles of non-Latin languages should be used according
to the rules set out in the Universal dictionary of Polish PWN, Warsaw 2003.
6. Indices people, material, etc. should be arranged alphabetically according to the
rules of the Polish language.
7. Illustrative material (photographs, graphics, maps) should be placed in separate
envelopes with information about the content, ie. The registration number and title;
graphics files should be closed if they are not subject to further retouch.
8. List of illustrations and maps should include the registration number, title,
illustrations or maps, name of the author and / or the copyright owner.
9. List of tables should contain the registration number, title.
10. Table of contents with a clear hierarchy of headings and subheadings should
exactly match the titles of chapters and sections set out in the main text.
11. The title page should include the author's name and title in full added (including
any subtitle).
12. Other elements adopted in the concept of the book, for example: dictionaries of
terms, the keys to the exercises.
Deadline for the submission of a thesis by the author or interpreter shall be the date of
delivery of the last piece of work.
B. Technical preparation of material for publications:
a) printout should be made unilaterally on A4 paper with the margins: left 2 cm, right
3-4 cm, lower and upper 2-2.5 cm and double spacing (or 1.5), equal in whole work
(including also footnotes and bibliography)
b) Font 11-12 point , preferred Times New Roman or Arial, uniform throughout the
work (including also footnotes and bibliography), text should not be adjust (should be
approaches to the left margin)
c) all of the text, ie. all the chapters, parts of the work and supplemental materials,
should be affixed to the continuous numbering in the order in which they follow each
other in the publication;
d) the volume of the prepared text is determined based on the number of characters
(1 sheet is equal to 40 000 characters with spaces);
e) Illustrative material should be describe in accordance with section A.1.e) and pass
in a structured form; supplied illustrative material must comply with a list of
illustration; in case of transfer of the material in electronic form on CD or slide, author
is required to provide an index - scans or legible photocopies;
f) the electronic version of the text should be written in one of the following formats:
MS Word or TeX / LaTeX.
g) the recommended media is a CD-R or CD-RW described the author's name, title of
the work and the name of the program for editing.
