Introduction to Dog Shows If you have ever watched a dog show on television, you have probably wondered: Why do those handlers trot/walk their dogs around the ring? And then go away from and back to the judge? What exactly is the judge looking for as he runs his hands over the dogs’ bodies? Why are the dogs referred to as “dogs” and “bitches?” But most of all: Why did the judge not give the top award to the dog that you liked best? Sign up for the new class “Introduction to Dog Shows” offered in the spring class session at Mountaineer Kennel Club. You will learn the answers to the basic questions above AND you can even learn more: We will teach you how to show your own dog from start to finish. Don’t know what breed you would like to show? You can bring your pet and have fun learning while we help you make that decision!! Learn about grooming your dog! Learn what you should wear in the ring!! And Dog show etiquette is another very important topic. Our next class session will begin in February of 2012 with our new Introduction to Dog Show Handling class offered on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30. If you are a veteran and only need practice, you may also attend Conformation run throughs taught by one of our experienced handlers.
