Professional Development Plan
Priorities Goals:
Increase use of SIOP strategies in all classrooms.
Implement the Listening and Speaking standards.
We will also continue work on building our skills in Lang! progress monitoring and
using data for classroom instructional decisions.
What are we looking to Accomplish or what will it look like:
Class lesson plans and observations will reveal planned and practiced listening and
speaking embedded in class lessons. There will be a significant amount of studentto – student interactions in observations. Students will be using the vocabulary of
the word walls in classroom activities.
Narrative Description:
We will be looking deeply at the State Standards in listening and speaking at each
lesson and explore ways that we can incorporate these in all content areas. We will
use the SIOP 100 ideas book and the SIOP observation template to build our
capacity and provide peer feedback as we develop our skills.
TA will provide a ½ day inservice on SIOP strategies and observation protocol.
Teachers will be part of a teaching team that provides monthly peer observations of
15 minutes or more.
Once a month we will use a Friday to review SIOP strategies and practice
collaborative conversations around the SIOP protocol.
At the end of the year, teachers will present to each other some of their “SIOP
successes” and their experience in the process.
