General Opportunities: Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students EPA Star Graduate Fellowship Jack Kent Cooke Dissertation Fellowship Award Marshall Foundation Dissertation Fellowship (UA graduate students only) Post-doctoral Opportunities: American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Post-doctoral Fellowships UA Post-doctoral Social Scientist Competition: Stand up for Science! Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) The Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) program provides outstanding benefits and opportunities to students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields of study that use high performance computing to solve complex science and engineering problems. The program fosters a community of bright, energetic and committed Ph.D. students, alumni, DOE laboratory staff and other scientists who share a common desire to impact the nation while advancing their science. Fellowship students represent diverse scientific and engineering disciplines but the common thread is their use of mathematical and computing techniques for their research. Deadline: January 8, 2013 Link: http://krellinst.org/csgf/ East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI) NSF and selected foreign counterpart science and technology agencies sponsor international research institutes for US graduate students in seven East Asia and Pacific locations at times set by the counterpart agencies between June and August each year. These Summer Institutes (EAPSI) operate similarly and the research visits to a particular location take place at the same time. Deadline: November 8 Link: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5284&WT.mc_id=USNSF_39&WT.mc_ev =click EPA Star Graduate Fellowship The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master’s and doctoral level students in environmental fields of study. The deadline for submission of applications is November 15, 2012 at 11:59:59 PM. Subject to availability of funding and other applicable considerations, the Agency plans to award approximately 80 new fellowships in the late summer of 2013. Master's level students may receive support for a maximum of two years. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years, usable over a period of five years. The fellowship program provides up to $42,000 per year of support per fellowship. Deadline: November 27 Link: http://www.grants.gov/search/search.do?oppId=203394&mode=VIEW Jack Kent Cooke Dissertation Fellowship Award The Jack Kent Cooke Dissertation Fellowship Award supports advanced doctoral students who are completing dissertations that further the understanding of the educational pathways and experiences of high-achieving, low-income students. We seek to provide funding for doctoral candidates whose work informs and advances the following populations/aspects of our mission: high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds, and/or; students who demonstrate the potential for achievement, and/or; the conditions that promote high achievement (e.g., school settings, interventions, policies). Deadline February 4, 2013 Link: http://www.jkcf.org/scholarships/graduate-scholarships/jack-kent-cooke-dissertationfellowship-award/ Marshall Foundation Dissertation Fellowship (UA) The Graduate College is pleased to announce the competition for the 2013 Marshall Foundation Dissertation Fellowship. This award is intended for graduate students who are in the completion stage of their dissertation and who have exhausted all other funding resources except for loans. Awardees will receive $10,788.00 provided by the Marshall Foundation (disbursed in one sum in Spring 2013) and a Graduate Tuition Scholarship for up to two consecutive semesters-- Spring 2013 and Fall 2013-- provided by the Graduate College. Mandatory fees and health insurance are not covered. Deadline: November 9 Link: http://grad.arizona.edu/financial-resources/ua-resources/meritorious-awards Post-doctoral Opportunities American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Post-doctoral Fellowships The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships are opportunities for professional development and public service. They are operated by AAAS as part of its mandate to “advance science and serve society.” The aim is to foster scientifically informed, evidence-based policy and practice by involving scientists and engineers from a broad range of disciplines, backgrounds and career stages to engage their knowledge and analytical skills while learning first-hand about policymaking and implementation at the federal level; and to build leadership for a strong S&T enterprise that benefits all people. This is accomplished by developing the capacity of scientists and engineers to effectively inform individuals and institutions that influence and determine policies, regulations and funding. Eligible applicants must hold a doctoral level degree (PhD, ScD, MD, DVM, etc.), in any of the following: Social and Behavioral Sciences; Medical and Health Sciences; Biological, Physical or Earth Sciences; Computational sciences and Mathematics; Engineering disciplines (applicants with a MS in engineering and three or more years of professional experience also qualify). Deadline: Dec 5, 2012 Link: http://fellowships.aaas.org/ UA Post-Doctoral Social Scientist The UA Office of Sustainability has an immediate opening for a post-doctoral social scientist whose research will play a critical role in establishing the UA as a thought leader and leader-by-example in how its students work with staff and faculty to use the campus environment to discover, test, and demonstrate solutions to a range local and global environmental sustainability challenges. The Postdoctoral Social Scientist will lead and coordinate an integrated assessment of recent and current co-curricular programs, courses, and projects at the UA where the campus (especially facilities and university systems) have been studied and used collaboratively by students, staff, and faculty to teach, test, and demonstrate solutions to contemporary sustainability challenges.
