LESSON PLANS ADV. SCIENCE WEEK OF SEPT. 28TH –OCT. 2ND Monday, Sept. 28th COS: 1b-Organism’s impact on the environment 65a-Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Learning Target: I can identify the products and reactants of photosynthesis and cellular respiraton Bell Ringer: Students will name the reactants and products of photosynthesis and Cellular respiration. They will also describe how each reactant gets into the producer and consumer. Before: Teacher will over the answers to the bell ringer to check for student understanding. During: Students will finish watching the Lion King and identifying the parts of an ecosystem After: Students will take an exit slip quiz on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Assessment: exit slip quiz and Lion King worksheet. Tuesday, Sept. 29th COS: 1b-Organism’s Impact on the Environment 5a-Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration 7b-Energy Flow through the Ecosystem Learning Target: I can review the parts of a food chain and ecosystem Bell ringer: Students will view a food chain on the board and identify producers, and different types of consumers. Before: Teacher will review the answers to the bell ringer and check for understanding. During: Half of students will copy study outline for test. And, other half will finish their power point on their ecosystem After: Students will switch roles and complete their power points and copying their study outlines. Assessment: none. Wed, Sept. 30th COS: 1b-Organism’s Impact on the Environment 5a-Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration 7b-Energy Flow through the Ecosystem Learning Target: I can identify the parts of an ecosystem and food chain in various ecosystems from students power point presentations. Bell ringer: Students will explain why their cannot be many top end consumers in an ecosystem. Before: Teacher will check for understanding and go over answers to bell ringer. During: Students will present their power point presentation on their ecosystem After: Students will vote for the best presentation. Assessment: Student power point presentation on the ecosystem of their choice. Thursday, Oct. 1st COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation within species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target: I can identify the parts of a DNA strand Bell Ringer: Students will list the parts of a DNA strand Before: Teacher will check for understanding by going over the answers to the bell ringer During: Teacher will present the parts of a DNA strand and label the parts After: Students will begin to draw the parts of a DNA strand and label the parts. Assessment: Drawing of DNA strand Friday, Oct. 2nd COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation within a species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target: I can identify the parts of a food chain and food web. I can also name the products and reactants in photosynthesis and cellular respiration on a summative assessment. Bell ringer: Students will prepare their papers for their test. Before: Teacher will pass out test and give directions. During: Students will take test on food chain, food webs, energy pyramids, and photosynthesis/cellular respiration After: Students will watch a short video clip on parts of DNA and RNA. Assessment: test.
