This Week at a Glance Literacy: This week students will continue to develop their understanding of the difference between fiction and nonfiction by looking at the structure and purposes of the text: Students will learn to determine the main idea of a text and recount key details and explain how to support the main idea, report on a topic or text with appropriate facts and relevant details Math: This week students will practice identifying arithmetic patterns (including patterns in addition table or multiplication table) and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends. Spelling: Group A: Will practice spelling words with r- influenced vowels. Group B: Will practice spelling words with long a sounds. Group C: Will practice spelling words ending with-able: Group D: Will practice spelling words with the r- influenced vowels. Reading: Read daily for 30 minutes and record on student reading log. Students can read a different book everyday but must choose which book to use to complete the graphic organizer. If students are reading chapter books they can choose a chapter to fill out the graphic organizer. Writing: This week students will review root words and compound words. Social Studies: This week students will learn about geographical concepts and the relationship between people and geography in real life situations. Science: This week in science students will recognize the major components and patterns observed in the earth/moon/sun system.
