PEAK Battery Module Start and Shut-Down Instructions Starting Module Bank To start the PEAK battery module bank from a completely shut down state: Ensure the battery modules are isolated from the system power supply. The isolation breaker between the battery circuit and the station should be open. All MDC cables and terminators should be connected to the modules. These use the 6-pin connectors on each module. Press the start button on one of the modules. This will initiate a start sequence for all modules connected to the same power bus. All modules will power up within 1 minute. At startup, each module’s LED will flash blue continuously while the module initializes. Refer to the Installation Manual for the detailed list of LED flash codes and their descriptions. After 1 minute the isolation breaker to the main system can be closed and the system will be operational. . 2/9/2016, Page 1of 3 Shutting Down a Module Bank Option 1: For long term storage or transportation it is recommended to completely shut down the PEAK battery modules. To turn off the PEAK batteries: Isolate the battery bank from the system power supply. The isolation breaker between the battery circuit and the station should be open. Remove the MDC Cables and terminators from each module. These use the 6-pin connectors on each module. Wait 5 minutes. Each module’s LED will stop flashing within this time and all modules will shut themselves off. Once a module shuts down, it will turn off its ability to charge and discharge. Reconnect the MDC cables and terminators to each module. 2/9/2016, Page 2of 3 When modules are stored, they must be checked once a year to ensure their state-of-charge never falls below a 50% charge. For long term storage, it is best to keep the modules at a temperature below 21°C (69°F). Storing modules at a temperature above 21°C (69°F) may degrade their performance and useful life. Option 2: For short term storage (3 months or less) or transportation it is recommended to completely shut down the PEAK battery modules per the above procedures. An alternative method to turn off the PEAK battery is provided below. Isolate the battery bank from the system power supply. The isolation breaker between the battery circuit and the station should be open. The modules will self-discharge at a rate of approximately 1.5% per day. Once the modules reach their low voltage threshold they will turn themselves off. This should occur after approximately 8 weeks if they were at 100% state-of-charge when put into storage. The modules should be recharged to 100% state-of-charge after one month (i.e. total time stored with cables connected should be no more than 3 months). For short term storage (one month or less), the modules should be stored where the temperature stays between -20°C (-4°F) and 45°C (113°F) and the relative humidity is 95% or less, non-condensing. For storage longer than one month, it is best to keep the modules at a temperature below 21°C (69°F). Storing modules at a temperature above 21°C (69°F) may degrade their performance and useful life. 2/9/2016, Page 3of 3
