You’ve maybe heard it before: you have to avoid junk food in order to lose
weight. But, as it turns out, scientific and medical research has shown
avoiding junk food is even more important than we previously thought.
Simply and bluntly stated, if you want to lose weight, and more importantly
keep that weight off, then you’ll have to say goodbye to the junk food.
Junk food is addictive, it causes weight gain and it will shorten your
lifespan. It makes it difficult and nearly impossible to lose weight. The
bottom line is that junk food is packed full of everything that your body
doesn’t need for good health, and almost none of what your body needs to
thrive.
What is “junk food?” Part of the problem with avoiding junk food is that
processed food companies have caught on to the fact that people realize that
their products are bad for human health. These companies now know that
more and more people want to avoid their low-grade, low-nutrition foods.
They have begun making it harder and harder to identify junk food.

Many of you may be surprised to see diet foods on the list, but recent
scientific studies have shown that diet foods, which are highly processed,
actually make weight loss harder and not easier as advised. After all, no
company wants to lose its customers, right?
Diet foods will not help you lose weight on a permanent basis regardless of
what claims are made and how their new product is revolutionary. In short,
junk food and diet food are the same thing as they are full of chemicals and
are highly processed.
When you eat junk food your body is not receiving nutrition that is
necessary for healthy weight loss. When junk food companies build their
products, they use the cheapest ingredients possible.
Quite often the ingredients they use are hardly even food and are often the
same compounds used for industrial purposes. It is no accident it is called
“junk” food. Now, you may be tempted to think, “well, I read the package
and the product has nutrition in it.” Yes, that is true, but you need to know
that even in “healthy” processed food products, the nutrition had to be added
back in via low-grade vitamins that are hard for your body to use.
Why was it necessary to add the nutrition back into the processed food
product? The reason is that all the “good stuff” is now gone, and what is left
is virtually devoid of nutritional value.
So what is the answer for healthy weight loss? You should avoid processed
foods, and this definitely includes sodas and diet sodas, which contain
harmful compounds. Instead eat real, whole foods, such as fruits,
vegetables, seeds, nuts, low-fat proteins and healthy grains. Instead of
sugary sweets, try naturally sweet alternatives like agave and yacon syrup. If
you are considering a food that is in a box, then the odds are excellent that
the food in question isn’t good for you and will not help you lose weight, no
matter what the claims may be.
