The APTA Manual and learning materials are
included in the cost. In order for the APTA
to process the manuals, orders must be
placed 3 weeks prior to the start of the
course. Therefore, registration will

Registration is limited to 30 participants.
Refund
Individuals must cancel their registration
and request a refund 72 hours prior to the
start date of the course. The amount of
refund will be equivalent to the APTA
portion of the registration fee only. Refund
amounts equal to or less than $70 will be
issued in the form of a credit voucher,
applicable towards the purchase of any
product from the APTA store or toward
registration fees for courses or conferences.
U Mary reserves the right to cancel or
postpone this course due to unforeseen
circumstances. In the unlikely event the
course is cancelled, U Mary will refund the
registration fee, but is not responsible for
any related costs, charges, or expenses to
participants, including fees assessed by
airline/travel/lodging agencies.

Who Should Attend:
Physical, occupational, and recreational therapists;
physical therapist assistants and certified
occupational therapist assistants
Course Description:
This course addresses planning and
implementing clinical education experiences for
physical therapy & other healthcare provider
students. Skills of evaluation are discussed, as
well as the identification and management of
students with exceptional situations. Also
included is a brief look at legal implications for
clinical educators including issues presented by
ADA legislation.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants
will be able to:
 Recognize the roles and responsibilities of a
clinical instructor.
• Write behavioral objectives that
measure the student’s performance.
• Identify characteristics of the adult
learner.
• Influence students learning by
Understanding readiness to learn and
learning styles.
• Facilitate learning in the clinical
environment.
• Differentiate between formative and
summative evaluation.
• Identify selected tools used in
Providing evaluative feedback to students.
• Manage the exceptional student in
Clinical education.
• Lead co-workers in being better
prepared to provide effective clinical
education.
• Identify the legal responsibilities of a
clinical educator
Presenters:
Jody Eckert, PT, DPT, OCS is the current
Director of Clinical Education, a certified
orthopedic specialist teaching orthopedics courses
for the University of Mary DPT program, Bismarck,
ND. She is a credentialed clinical trainer for the
Level 1 course through the APTA.
Mary Dockter, PT PhD, is the current Chair of
the Department of Physical Therapy and former
Director of Clinical Education at the University of
Mary, Bismarck, ND. She is a credentialed clinical
trainer for both Level 1 and 2 through the APTA.
Tyler Jepson, PT, DPT, GCS is a certified
geriatric specialist and clinic manager at the
Hearing & Balance Center in Boise, ID. His
practice primarily focuses on patients with
vestibular and audiological disorders. Tyler is also
an adjunct instructor at Boise State University,
Department of Community & Environmental
Health. He is a credentialed trainer for the Level 1
course through the APTA.
Credits Awarded:
The workshop is offered for 15 credit hours (1.5
CEUs), which may be applied toward re-licensure
requirements for physical therapists and physical
therapist assistants. Therapists from other
disciplines and other allied health professions may
participate and will receive 12 contact hours.
PT/PTAs will obtain Clinical Instructor Certification
upon successful completion of a 6 station
Assessment Center. Participants must attend each
session in its entirety and complete the
Assessment Center to be eligible for credentialing.
Non-physical therapists are not eligible for the
assessment centers for APTA credentialing.
