Realistic
(practical, self-reliant, hands-on, independent)
Computer Repair Technology- computer networking, computer hardware/ software technicians. Also work as electronic technicians in
repairing, troubleshooting and circuit design.
Contractor- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools
and power tools.
Fire Fighter- Control and extinguish fires, protect life and property and conduct rescue efforts.
Landscape/Landscape Design- Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically
perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering,
fertilizing, digging, raking, and sprinkler installation. Plan and design land areas for projects such as parks and other recreational
facilities, airports, highways, hospitals, schools, land subdivisions, and commercial, industrial, and residential sites.
Welding- Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of
fabricated metal products.
Investigative (Curious, problem solver, investigating, evaluating)
CPS (Child Protection) - Provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and
their families and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. May assist parents, arrange adoptions,
and find foster homes for abandoned or abused children.
Dentist- Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp, and
other dental tissues affecting oral hygiene and retention of teeth. May fit dental appliances or provide preventive care
Family Physician (Doctor) - Physicians who diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the
general population. May refer patients to specialists when needed for further diagnosis or treatment.
Physician Assistant- General medical care for all ages from babies to the very old. Focus on internal medicine, which is the medical
care of adults, especially those with chronic diseases like diabetes or heart disease. See patients for appointments in the office, take a
history, perform a physical exam, order lab work or other diagnostic tests, diagnose and prescribe treatment for the problem. Will make
referral to specialists as needed.
Police/State Trooper- Enforce laws and ordinances, regulate traffic, control crowds, prevent crime, and arrest violators.
Respiratory Therapist- Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory
care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain
patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.
Secret Service- Supervisor for all administrative functions for the Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and Syracuse offices relating to all
investigative and protective needs for the government.
Surgical Technologist- Assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May
help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other
supplies to surgeons and surgeon's assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and
instruments.
Veterinarian- Diagnose, treat, or research diseases and injuries of animals.
Artistic (imaginative, impulsive, creative)
Architect- Plan and design structures, such as private residences, office buildings, theaters, factories, and other structural property.
Chef/Restaurant Owner- Direct and may participate in the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of salads, soups, fish, meats,
vegetables, desserts, or other foods. May plan and price menu items, order supplies, and keep records and accounts.
Electronic Game Design- Art, craft and business of creating electronic games. Includes writing, coding, and publishing video
games.
Fashion Design- Design clothing and accessories. Create original designs or adapt fashion trends
Hairstylist (Cosmetology) - Provide beauty services, such as shampooing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair, and massaging and
treating scalp. May apply makeup, dress wigs, perform hair removal, and provide nail and skin care services.
Photographer- Photograph people, landscapes, merchandise, or other subjects, using digital or film cameras and equipment. May
develop negatives or use computer software to produce finished images and prints. Includes scientific photographers, aerial
photographers, and photojournalists
Television Producer- Plan and coordinate various aspects of television production, such as selecting script, coordinating writing,
directing and editing, and arranging financing.
Television Host- Pre-game, intermission, and post-game host on their television broadcasts for the Buffalo Sabres. Also, daily
contributor to the Sabres website (Sabres.com) with interviews, stories, as well as the lead interviewer for documentary series “Beyond
Blue and Gold”.
Videographer- Operates television, video, or motion picture camera to record images or scenes for various purposes, such as TV
broadcasts, advertising, and the Buffalo Bills website. Shoots and edits videos for pregame show as well as the Rex Ryan Show on TV
and contributes to national programs.
Graphic Design- Design or create graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as packaging, displays, or logos.
May use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects
Social (Communication, work with people, helpful)
Day Care Provider- Attend to children at schools, businesses, private households, and childcare institutions. Perform a variety of
tasks, such as dressing, feeding, bathing, and overseeing play.
Middle School Teacher- Teach students in one or more subjects in public or private schools at the middle school level.
Physical Therapist- Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase
strength, and improve or correct disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury
School Counselor- Counsel individuals and provide group educational, emotional, and vocational guidance services.
Social Worker/Therapist- Assess and treat individuals with mental, emotional, or substance abuse problems. Activities may include
individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, prevention, and education
Enterprising (economics, politics, leadership)
App Development/Business Startup- Develops mobile apps with interactive use in mind . Use cutting edge technologies, such as
360 degree video and photography to create engaging mobile user experiences. Works with advertising and marketing companies.
Attorney (Lawyer) - Represent clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, or manage
or advise clients on legal transactions.
Politician (Erie County Legislator)- The Legislature approves the County’s annual budget, as well as expenditures throughout the
year. Approve local laws that only change what happens within the county borders. Vote on job creation, grant acceptance, etc. that
help the departments perform their duties. Approve road projects and capital projects and work with departments to do outreaches on
county programs and services to ensure constituents are receiving the help they request.
Real Estate Agent- Rent, buy, or sell property for clients. Perform duties, such as study property listings, interview prospective clients,
accompany clients to property site, discuss conditions of sale, and draw up real estate contracts.
Conventional (data, record keeping, organization)
Financial Planner/Insurance- Advise clients on financial plans using knowledge of tax and investment strategies, securities,
insurance, pension plans, and real estate. Duties include assessing clients' assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status,
and financial objectives.
Manufacturing- Sale and production of goods for wholesalers or manufacturers to businesses or groups of individuals. Work requires
substantial knowledge of items sold
Mechanical Engineer- Applies the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing,
and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of
machinery.
