JUNE, 2013
FROM THE SUPERVISOR’S DESK
Hurricane season is here! The season for tropical storms spans from June 1 through November 30,
though activity tends to increase beginning in mid-August, and typically peaks on or around
September 10th.
This year, the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting an active tropical storm season. As we found out
with hurricanes Irene, Lee and Sandy the last few years, it is important to be prepared for any
storm related emergencies.

HISTORIAN’S CORNER
Signs
Have you noticed the new sign for Leggs Mill Bridge? The Town is in the process of ordering two
new signs: one for the Howe Mill’s across from Sawkill Park Road and one for the Jockey Hill
School on Jockey Hill Road.
School Bell
Many of you may have noticed the school bell in the Town Hall. This bell had hung for many
years in the one-room schoolhouse that later became the Town Hall. Ludwig Wittig, the master
craftsman, who designed and built the judge’s bench and the eagle behind the judge’s bench, made
the beautiful stand on which the bell sits. We are fortunate to have this piece of history.
A Look Back
The original Jockey Hill School was built in 1865. It served the community until it burned down
in 1921. A new school was built behind the present Town Hall. It operated until January 1960
when classes were merged into the Kingston Consolidated School System. The building was
deeded to the Town as a Town Hall until its demolition in 2010.
NOVENA AT ST. ANN’S CHURCH
The Novena at St. Ann’s Church will be held from July 18 - July 26 at 7PM.
CODE ENFORCEMENT
Building permits are needed to build in our Town. Bob Cologero’s cell phone number is
750-5983. He also has office hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4-6PM.

3. Program will be open at all times, rain or shine. On rainy days the program will meet under the pavilion.
4. Remind your child that all conduct that applies during the school year will be adhered to during the summer
program. Your child is expected to follow the rules of the summer program and show proper respect toward the
staff. If at any time there is a problem with a child, parents/guardians will be notified and the child may be
suspended from the summer program. This suspension can be daily, weekly or permanent - depending on the
problem, child and parent.
5. We always welcome participation by your family in our events. If you would like to volunteer to help, please
indicate this on the permission form. Our success comes from your support, as well. Please contact us with any
suggestions or comments at 336-8853 x10.

playground area. Also, when picking your child up, please park by the Fire House.
7. The Summer Recreation is a FREE program. We will be asking for $5 each ($13 per
family if 3 or more are needed) to purchase T-Shirts to be worn during the program and the
Children’s Day Parade (July 12th).
I would like to remind everyone that this is a summer recreation program. We have rules that must be followed,
but we are here to have fun. We maintain a quality program with a quality staff. We need the cooperation of staff,
children and parents to assure continuance of our quality programming.
