NAP Homework Tasks –
SCIENCE FOCUS
This term we are focusing on the Native Animals and Plants (NAP). The big idea is that we will make
a difference to help our community continue to value native animals and plants all the while learning
new information along the way!
Each week pick one task to complete. There are templates available from the teacher if you need
them to complete the task.
Classifying
 Start collecting leaves
that have fallen
around your home or
school. What are the
different shapes?
Work out groupings of
similar leaf types.
 Sketch some of their
shapes.
 Can you find out the
names of the trees
that they leaves have
come from?
Observing
Head outside, you may even like to
go for a walk around Brooklyn, or
somewhere different with the family
(Otari Wilton’s Bush is a great place
for spotting birds!)
Grab a ‘Native Bird Tally’ from the
class.
How many Native Birds did you see?
Why do you think there are
many/not that many?
You will need to be outside for at
least 20 minutes 
