On Saturday 12 th December, our national campaign weekend will be run in association with
Barnardo’s Scotland and will feature two key elements.
1.
A high visibility street stall in your constituency with high footfall on the morning on
Saturday 12 th December.
2.
A collection drive for your local Barnardos Scotland service.
Since taking over the leadership of our Party, Kezia and Alex have put the future of
Scotland’s young people at the heart of everything we do. With Christmas fast approaching we must make it clear that the Scottish Labour Party believes that every child should have the Christmas they wish for and we’re ready to help make that happen in our communities across the country.
This campaign day looks to provide a campaigning platform for a high visibility street stall in your community with a method of engagement to help those who need it most at this time of year.
Barnardo’s Scotland provides community-based services throughout the country working with over 26,500 vulnerable children, young people and their families.
This pack includes:
 Full list of all 147 Barnardos Scotland services across Scotland (appendix 1).
 Template letter that can be hand delivered/posted the week before to surrounding area of where the campaign stall will be located (appendix 2).
 A model local press release for after the delivery of donations to the local Barnardos
Scotland service (appendix 3).
 Sample easy print leaflet for pre-collection leafleting to surrounding area of where the campaign stall will be located (appendix 4).

Contact your nearest Barnardos Scotland service (appendix 1) and ask them for the following information:
 What ages are their main service users?
 What items are they currently looking for in the run up to Christmas? (i.e. toys, books, clothes?)
 Inform them that you’re running a local campaign drive on Saturday 12 th December and ask when is the best time to drop off your collected items after this date.
2.
Decide on a location for your Campaign Stall on the morning of 12th December in your local area. This should be a highly visible area with good footfall on a Saturday morning.
3.
Write out to all local members asking them and their friends and family to provide any of the items they can.
4.
Advertise that you will be completing a collection at your Campaign Stall on 12th December and welcome donations for their local Barnardos Scotland service.
This could be done through:
 Local leafleting to the streets that surround where the stall will be on 12th
December.
 A local letter from candidate or MSP inviting donations at the stall on 12th
December.
 Doorknocking on the morning or in the week running up to the Campaign Stall.
 Poster advertising collections in your constituency office or local shops/libraries/community centres/etc.
5.
Set up your high visibility campaign stall on the morning of Saturday 12 th December with
Scottish Labour materials covering our recent announcements on our policy to reverse the
Tories tax credit cut, our fair start education fund and our pledge to deliver the living wage for all care workers.
6.
Deliver the donations to your chosen Barnardos Scotland service using your MSP/Candidate and local campaigners. Remember to take photographs to accompany local press release!
7.
Issue local model press release (appendix 3).

With Christmas fast approaching I believe that every child should have the Christmas they wish for and I am looking for your help to make sure that happens in our local area.
I have teamed up with our local Barnardos Scotland service here in INSERT TOWN/CITY, which works with hundreds of vulnerable children, young people and their families every year, to organise a donation drive ahead of the festive period.
