Description:
The Volunteer Program Coordinator will work in support of the Castle mission with the primary goal of building and leading a diverse array of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are essential members of the Castle team, providing outstanding visitor services and delivering quality programs and events for a broad audience. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will manage volunteers and provide direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions at Castle in the Clouds. This position is an hourly position working approximately 20 hours per week with some variations in schedule depending upon the operating season.
Qualifications:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal) are required for this position. The ability to work on several projects concurrently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting is essential. Strong presentation and public speaking skills are needed. The ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team are also important. Basic computer skills and record keeping abilities are required. A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor’s Degree or related work experience is recommended but not required. Experience as a volunteer in a nonprofit or museum setting is also a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization: o Work with other members of the team to identify needs for volunteer assistance o Maintain job descriptions for all volunteer assignments o Conduct or arrange for volunteer orientation and training o Schedule all volunteer activity in conjunction with identified operational and programmatic needs o Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards o Recommend new volunteer program initiatives in response to changing organizational needs o Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and other reports on volunteer participation
Recruit, interview, and place volunteers o Set and meet targets for volunteer participation o Actively work with social clubs, schools, professional associations, etc. to promote the benefits and opportunities for volunteer service at the Castle. o Travel locally in support of volunteer recruitment efforts (mileage is reimbursed)
Provide ongoing support for volunteers o Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events o Act as the primary point of contact for volunteer communications o Facilitate regular distribution of information relevant to volunteers
Other duties as assigned by the Curatorial Director or Executive Director
