Contact Olivia Holt, Janie Wilson, Jo Anne Davidson for questions/donations Will update on Thursday, July 31, 2014 ****** Grigsby was in the 11th grade of high school when his Motown career actually began... He had won the South Carolina state drum competition, which gave him a spot in the back-up band for Ricky Nelson and the Cascades," Listen To The Rhythm of the Falling Rains". At that show in a small town in S.C. off of HWY 301 inside an old roller skating rink that still stands today...were many people and musicians waiting to see Ricky, who ironically was not affiliated with Motown at all. After the show, Grigsby was approached by associates of Motown about the possibility of being one of their drummers. Two weeks later he found himself sitting behind James Brown and the Famous Flames at the Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. From then on it was history. For the next 8 years, between tennis tournaments, he was playing with many of the greats, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha & the Vandellas, the Miracles, the Supremes, the Temptations, Jr. Walker & the All Stars, Major Lance...and the list goes on. At that time he was the only white drummer they had on board. So, as a result of his bleached out white hair, they called him 'Cotton.' To Grigsby, Motown is not just music it's passion!
