students 15 -18 and enrolled in high school. Teen Guides give tours to summer camps, day care, and
summer school during the month of July focusing on open ended questioning strategies to make tours

tools for personal and professional growth in order to empower them to achieve
personal and academic success and pursue higher education.

UMKC SUMMER SCHOLARS

The Summer Scholars Program gives you the opportunity to learn more about a career
in health care. From gaining additional knowledge in the basic sciences to experiencing
clinical rotations, you will spend three weeks investigating health care as a profession.
In Summer Scholars, high school students learn about the health professions in
hospitals, clinics and other resources on Hospital Hill, including Truman Medical Center,
the Kansas City Missouri Health Department, Children’s Mercy, and the University of
Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. Choosing a career in health
care is a big investment and the Summer Scholars Program will assist you in
determining whether or not it is the right choice for you.

This summer the University of Missouri Kansas City Institute for Human Development will host
their 12th Annual Kansas City Summer Transportation Institute (KCSTI) that will be held
on the campus of UMKC June 15 - July 10, 2015 (9:00am – 4:00pm; Monday–Friday). The
KCSTI is a fun, interactive, engaging, and hands on learning opportunity designed to create
awareness and stimulate interest in the wealth of career opportunities that exist in the
transportation industry. The KCSTI is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
and is open to students attending public and private high schools in the greater Kansas City area

The Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (MLBCF) Emerging Leaders
Conference

The Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (MLBCF) Emerging Leaders Conference
will be held on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO from June 28-June
30, 2015. The program is open statewide to high school students who will enter 10th, 11th, or
12th grade in the Fall. There is no cost for students selected to participate in this
conference. Transportation will be provided to students traveling from the Kansas City, Saint
Louis, and Bootheel regions. Completed applications must be submitted by May 6, 2015 to be
considered.
This three day experience is designed to give students a better understanding of the legislative
structure, public policy, community issues, and the decision making process through hands-on
activities. Students will also learn about college application process, leadership development, and
much more.

YVC - Summer of Service
June 8th - July 30th
Cost: $40 per/week
YVCKC's Summer Volunteer Program is an 8-week intensive program for youth ages 11 to 18 to
serve their communities in groups of 10-20. Each project lasts four days: Monday through
Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Youth serve for one week (or more if they choose) at
projects all over the community. Each project is supervised by a background checked Team
Leader. Team Leaders build group unity through strategic activities, teach new skills through
service work, and provide reflective service learning. Each week of service costs $40 per youth.
A Summer of Service t-shirt is included in the cost.
